It was cold, enough that his breath could be seen. Strips of pale light lined the hard roof tiles, peeking through the foliage and tree branches, easily compared to streaks of white paint on a black canvas. His footsteps were silent as he spun slowly, bare feet poised so that he was on his toes. It was quiet. He wore a simple tee and shorts, the thin clothes not enough to combat the rising chill.

Arms over his head, body twisting and bending to the music in his head. Distantly, he could hear a violin's pitching wails, so faint that it was just a memory. Faster and faster, he moved, throwing his arms out to keep his balance as he edged along the roof's end. He spun away just as he toed the edge, just as the violin dropped into a low hum.

For the first time, he felt free. It was ecstasy. A cold breeze washed over him, bringing color to his cheeks and flushing his joints. The violin began to cry again. He stomped his feet, tipping his head back as tears like lava spilled down his face. It burned, the hot droplets burned him. They slipped down, down, down, stinging his throat and melting his collarbone. He didn't wipe them. The drops flew from his face with each movement. Some part of him worried that he'd destroy the house with those burning tears. That piece was drowned out by the weeping violin's tune.

Slowly, the instrument was overcome by the piercing silence around him. He was dragged out of his mind, his movements starting to cease. Chest heaving, he fought against the pull, shutting his eyes tight, so much that his tears stopped. A loud ringing filled his head, growing louder with each gasping breath.

He struggled to lock away reality, wanting nothing more than to escape into that space he'd been in before. His dancing grew stiff and jerky, unstable. He missed a step, and he lost the fight. With a choked sound, Killer snapped back into the real world. Air rushed around him, ripping at his clothes, tearing at his limbs, screeching at him as he fell. He curled into a ball, his hands pressing to his head as he screamed with every bit of breath he had.

He hit the floor with a thump. He'd fallen onto a balcony just below the rooftop. He didn't move, silently trembling as he curling up tighter. A door opened. Someone sighed. Magic encased his soul, lifting him off the hard concrete. Killer didn't speak. He felt something soft beneath him. A bed. Shuffling, the mattress dipped, warm breath hitting the back of his neck, an arm slinking around his waist to pull him closer to that warm body behind him. "You're okay, Kills..." He stiffly uncurled, turning to burrow into the other's chest.

Silently, Killer broke down. Another body pressed up against his side, a hand rubbing soothing patterns on his back. A whispered conversation passed over his head. He ignored it, crying without a single sound. But it didn't matter how hard he tried to keep it that way. The first sound left him, taking the form of a name. "D..ust..." One of the two people with him quietly murmured something, shifting closer as Killer's trembling worsened.

His next word was hardly even a whisper, and yet, when he mouthed the word, he got an answer. "Killer..?" Slowly, just about three hours later, he had managed to calm enough to relax. Heavy exhaustion draped over his mind as he softly called for one of his boyfriends. "Cross.." There a quiet response of "Yeah?" and the feeling of warm breath on his forehead, and Killer wormed his way up so that he could feel Cross's breath against his cheek. He turned his face slightly and found himself staring into dual-colored eyelights. "Killer?" A small movement was all it took to get what he wanted. Cross didn't protest, returning the kiss gently. Dust nuzzled Killer's back, muttering his comfort and love as Killer sought Cross's attention.

Killer slowly drifted off, falling asleep under the watchful eyes of his mates, feeling safe and loved. When he woke, he found that Horror had joined their cuddle pile. A part of him that had felt broken wasn't hurting anymore, the ache having eased overnight. With a content sigh, Killer cuddled back into Cross's chest and fell asleep.

It really was something he'd always dreamed about, and now that dream had come true, and he couldn't be more grateful.
