Choices

the gun shakes in my hands, how did i get myself into this mess? Dave and Rex (i kinda forgot the name of the 2 guys in the boat lol sorry) brought me in this saying they will give me extra cash for my moms hospital bills. Be mind it's my first day, they want to find a compass from a teenage boy named john b, rex and Dave come up behind as i went up to the small house in front of me 

"JOHN BOOKER ROUTLEDGE WE KNOW YOUR HERE" 

Rex yells 

they kick down the door and go onto the porch i follow closely behind them checking my surroundings 

"COME OUT AND GIVE US THE COMPASS" 

Dave yells 

i holster my gun around my waist while both men trash up the place 

i whip my head over the yelling and smashing of dishes and tables being flipped i hear hushed voices, scared, you can hear them trembling like little children. And i can tell they are the same age as me 

i make my way my boots making loud stomps 

"FIND ANYTHING SPEEDY" 

they call out my nickname when were on duty 

"NO" i shout back 

i rattle the door and they hold it back hearing a girl whimper and scrabbling around trying to find something 

"GIVE US THE COMPASS BOY" 
Dave shouts 

"WE WON"T BITE" 

they shatter vases 

i push the door open revealing the four scared, helpless teens 

"FIND ANYTHING" 
Rex calls out suspicious 

"NO JUST A LOCKED DOOR" 

my heart beats out of my chest thinking of the worst possibilities that can happen if they find out i'm lying 

i put my finger up to my lips closing the door shut and locking it 

they raise their hands in the air 

the brunette with freckles covering his face seems calm in the situation 

i put my gun down and holster it since i pulled it out before for safety, you know just in case they had a weapon 

"are you john b" i whisper 

he nods his head 

i nod mine as well and make my way to the window 

painted shut great 

the blonde stares at me 

"i need something" my voice trembles 

footsteps come closer 

"SPEEDY" 

i stab at the window my muscles clenching and my lips formed into a thin line, the window opens and the brunette girl who had tear stained cheeks covering her perfect tanned skin, god i wish i had a normal teenage life. 

But they also didn't whatever trouble their in with these two can't be anything good 

the dark skinned boy wen after the girl, then john b, last was the blonde 

"why are you helping us"

"get through the window" i plead he nods and jumps out in a swift movement 

Rex and Dave come in looking around the place collecting books and maps 

i sigh looking out the window 

i grab a box and grab the picture where all the compasses were founded to 

we leave the tiny house and go load everything into the car 

the brunette peakes his head out of the rooster pen and the rooster keeps making noise 

shit i curse in my head 

Dave drops his box on the floor and moves his way to the pen i drop mine 

"come on it's probably nothing you promise to get me back at 1:00" 

it was now 3:30

he turns around and slaps me causing me to fall out of shock  the rooster stops crowing 

i grab the dirt to keep calm 

he grabs my chin making me look him straight in the eye 

"we didn't find the compass did we" he asks a rhetorical question 

i didn't answer 

he punches me square in the face making my lip cut down the middle 

"ANSWER ME" 

"DAVE" Rex calls out 

"lets go" he repeats 

Dave lets go of my face harshly and i spit out blood while they grab the 2 boxes that me and dave left on the grass. they drive off with a squeal of the tires i cough and the teenagers come out 

john b comes out quickly and helps me up 

"careful john" kie whispers still scared 

"i'm not going to kill you" i remark dropping my holster with my gun in it 

"what do they want" john b asks sternly 

i chuckle looking him in the eye even though my face hurts like hell 

"now your acting all tough guy after i save all of your asses huh?"

he glares at me 

"you don't know how fucked i am now you should be thanking me" 

"thanking you wow that's a new one huh guys i'm not the one hanging out with men trying to kill teenagers for a fucking compass" he pratically yells getting in my face 

the blonde steps in between us pushing him away

"chill out okay shes the reason were alive" 

he yells staring everybody down 

"look i didn't know they were going to kill for a compass that could be pawned off for five bucks" 

i say to the crew 

"no offense" i turn to john b 

"none taken" he huffs 

"look i just needed the money for my mom i honestly didn't know what i was getting myself into and now i'm in deep water" i whisper even though they can still hear me 

"hey hey hey everything is going to be okay" the blonde comes up to me wiping the tears off my face 

"we will figure everything out" the dark skinned boy reassures 

i smile 

"but" john b cuts in 

"you have to make a choice" 

i nod already knowing what they were going to ask me
