chapter sixty seven ~ the one with the hospital
Heather's POV

Obviously, my advice about how to get the labour induced worked because it wasn't long before we got the phone call to announce that Rachel's waters had broken. No one knew how long it would be before the baby was actually born because labour is different for everyone, but no one wanted to risk missing the birth of the newest member of our family. Joey and I left Matteo with his parents, who were more than happy to take care of their Grandson when we explained what was going on and Mozzarella was left with his uncle Gunther; who had surprisingly taken a liking to our little white dog even though he had pretended to hate it when we first brought him into Central Perk. It didn't take us long to get to the hospital as we had taken a taxi down with Chandler, Monica and Phoebe but when we arrived, we were informed that Rachel hadn't arrived yet and we had time to pop to the canteen and get some food. As we came around the corner into the waiting room, already we could hear Ross complaining to Monica and Phoebe that they had gotten here before the couple.

"Ah, you made it!" Joey teased as we came around the corner, finishing off our sandwiches as the rest of our friends came into view.

Ross's eyes widened and he looked as though he was about to pass out; my guess was that the adrenaline pumping through him was really starting to affect him. "Okay, is there some kind of magic tunnel to this hospital?"

"Ross, you stay here and talk." Rachel sighs as she wheels herself over to the front desk. "I'm going to go have a baby."

That seemed to prompt the father to move towards the desk and talk to the receptionist who was busy writing notes into a notebook. "Okay, uh, hi, this is Rachel Green and I'm Ross Geller. We called from the car."

"Right. We have a semiprivate labour room waiting for you-"

"Woah, woah, woah." Rachel argued with her hands in the air as she obviously wasn't happy with that information and even though we shouldn't, we couldn't help but watch this unfold because it could be the only entertainment that we have for a long time. "I'm sorry, semiprivate? We asked for a private room."

"Yes, I see that here. Unfortunately, we can't guarantee a private room and currently they're all unavailable."

Chandler couldn't help but poke fun of the couple who were really not happy with the fact that they'd only be getting a semiprivate room rather than the private one which they wanted. "Man, if only you'd gotten here sooner."

"I'm sorry, semiprivate rooms are all we have."

Even though it would have been entertaining to watch Rachel and Ross attempt to bribe the receptionist so that they could get a private room, I pushed the guys over to the chairs in the waiting room so that we weren't eavesdropping. I didn't realise how hard it was to get a private room because when I went into labour, I was basically rushed around the building and wasn't even worried about what room I was in. As long as the baby was coming out, then nothing else mattered but obviously, Rachel had different priorities in her labour and I didn't blame her for wanting some privacy during this time.
