Later that night, Narcolepse awoke to fingers combing through his hair. He opened his eyes and looked up at Snow.
"You look so tired."
"Yeah, so why'd you wake me up?"
Snow laughed at him.
"You need to eat."
Snow brought over a bowl of soup from the nightstand. Narcolepse carefully sat himself up the best he could and took it. Snow watched him while he ate. When Narcolepse was about halfway through the bowl, he spoke.
"They're training us to face off against the scientists... They know where Roderick is."
Narcolepse choked a bit, then looked at Snow.
"Why are they training you? Shouldn't they go after him themselves?"
"They can't. They're too mundane. They don't have abilities like us to use against the monsters and stuff."
"The monsters."
Narcolepse frowned.
"What do they know about the monsters?"
"Quite a lot, actually..."
Narcolepse's frown deepened.
"How do they know anything?"
"They got someone on the inside feeding them information."
Narcolepse started eating again and Snow sighed.
"We haven't heard anything about Books."
"Tch. Why would you want anything to do with that traitor?"
Snow frowned.
"I'll explain later. When you're healed up more."
"That's bullshit. Explain now."
Snow shook his head.
"You'll need your strength. And I need time to think."
"Think about what?"
"My next step forward. I've got so much running around in my head. I'm angry at Evelyn for leaving you to die. I'm angry at myself for giving up. I just... Have a lot on my mind."
Narcolepse gripped Snow's shirt by the collar and tugged him into a kiss. When it broke, he said,
"You don't need her. We're your family now. Remember?"
Snow was blushing and didn't know how to respond for a bit. Then, he smirked.
"Brothers don't usually kiss."
Narcolepse chuckled a bit.
"Well, we're special."
"That's for sure."
The two laughed, then fell into a comfortable silence, staring at each other.
