(Interesting fact: Hero was actually called Shen in the Japanese version however this was changed by Funimation likely to avoid confusion with Master Shen who was simply called Crane Hermit. The reason I've gone with the Funimation names is because Master Shen is technically the main villain of the first two acts of this book so I felt it would be more suitable for him to have an actual name rather than just his title.)
Y/N POV
It was finally time for the final match of the Quarter-Finals between Yamcha and the mysterious man known only as 'Hero'. And just like the last three, this would be one that I would certainly find interesting.
Firstly, I was interested to see how Yamcha had improved over the last three years, especially after Tien and Krillin's displays. However I was more intrigued to see more from Hero, up to this point he had been somewhat of an enigma. How was it that a man like that managed to make it this far?
The announcer yelled "REPAIRS ON THE RING ARE NOW COMPLETE! THE STAGE IS NOW SET FOR OUR FOURTH AND FINAL MATCH BEFORE THE SEMI-FINALS BEGIN! IF THE LAST FIGHT WAS ANY INDIATION, THIS ONE SHOULD BE A DOUSY! LET'S TURN OUR ATTENTION TO THE FIGHTERS! WHAT MAKES THIS MATCH SO UNIQUE IS THE DIVERSITY OF ITS PLAYERS! EXPERIENCED WARRIOR YAMCHA TAKES ON NOVICE HERO!"
Both warriors entered the arena, Goku and Krillin wished Yamcha good luck while Hero just entered the ring nervously.
As the two faced one another, Hero bowed and said "I'm very honoured that you would take the time to fight me." Yamcha kindly responded "Yeah, no problem, it's kind of what I do." The announcer finally yelled "CONTESTANTS ARE YOU READY? BEGIN!"
Yamcha instantly got into a fighting stance and Hero attempted one of his own however it came off as funny and made it impossible to take him seriously. I was trying hard not to laugh at this point and I could tell Yamcha was the same.
Hero continued to flail his arms a bit as Yamcha said "That's an interesting technique you've got there. Feel free to attack whenever you're ready." Now I couldn't hold in the laugh as I threw my head back. Hero just smiled and said "Okay, I appreciate your kindness."
I then noticed Goku staring at Hero and telling Krillin how he found the man strange. Now that he mentioned it, I noticed something as well, he seemed... Familiar...
Finally he said "That about does it for the warm-up. I'm ready for some action." Yamcha replied "Okay, let's see what you've got." Hero started making strange noises while flailing his arms about dramatically.
He then began hopping about. His mannerisms remined me of that of a monkey in a sense. I could tell Yamcha was just as confused as me. He then ran forward, letting out a high-pitched cry.
I grinned as he attempted a chop-attack but Yamcha dodged and missed. Hero fumbled about, as if he was about to fall over however in that moment his foot launched out and kicked Yamcha hard in the side.
Yamcha curled over screaming and my eyes widened. The crowd started laughing as the announcer yelled "IN A MOMENT OF PURE SLAPSTICK HERO LOST HIS BALANCE ACCIDENTALLY KICKING YAMCHA'S SIDE IN THE PROCESS! WHO KNEW CLUMSY COULD BECOME SUCH AN EFFECTIVE WEAPONS!"
Yamcha was still clutching his side before he laughed and said "For someone who can't fight, you're doing pretty good. With moves like that, who knows what's next." Hero responded "Oh yes, thank you." The crowd just continued laughing.
I could tell Yamcha was getting frustrated at being shown up by this clown but I couldn't blame him. There was something else at play here. Yamcha said "Listen Hero, you seem like a nice guy, but this is a match. So why don't we get back to it and save the laughter for after the fight."
