"You owe me ten pounds," Maeve whispered to her Ruthie pulled herself away from her girlfriend. Alice faked a groan and dug into her pocket, taking out the scrunched note and gave it to her. "You knew this would happen, didn't you?" Alice shrugged, her grin giving away the answer and Maeve hit her arm. "That's for making a bet you knew you'd lose."
"It's Otis, of course it'd fail," Alice said, tearing her eyes away from the trio talking by the pool to look at Maeve. "You're the idiot who made the bet thinking I thought it'd work. You really don't know me at all," she sighed exaggeratedly.
"Oh, fuck off," Maeve chuckled. "C'mon, time to talk to your failure of a brother." Maeve got up first, making her way down to the pool as Alice tilted her head back against the seats behind her.
"Every girl's dream," Alice muttered, following behind her. Otis' gaze switched between the two of them, halting his conversation with Maeve and made an excuse to leave, scurrying out of the room.
