chapter forty nine
{ unedited }
IT WAS A ROUGH COUPLE OF DAYS. Alice was struggling to keep food down but Carmen and Ruby were by her side through it all. Johnny stopped by whenever he was done with his modelling shoots but he could never stay long. Maria was there in the early mornings since Alice had convinced her she needed to open her shop and not spend most of her time at the hospital. Stella was planning on taking an early break from uni and come by in a day or two so that she could spend time with Alice and ensure that the girl gets the help she needs.
Ruby was the one who stayed the night since they could only have one visitor during the night. Alice had tried to persuade the girl to go home and get a night of proper sleep but Ruby always refused. She would stay in an uncomfortable chair with her legs to her chest, a blanket thrown over her body.
Alice woke up first that morning, sunlight shining through the window and blinding her eyes as she squinted under them and tilted her head to look in the shadowed part where Ruby was still asleep. Alice felt guilty for dragging Ruby into her mess when Ruby broke up with her to get free of all this.
The two hadn't talked about what happened and why Alice was here and it was tugging at her mind every time she saw Ruby. She was going to talk about it today no matter what it took. She wanted―no―she needed to talk about all this. They couldn't stay in this room without talking about how Alice got here.
