ALICE HAD BEEN STRUGGLING AND THAT WAS PUTTING IT NICELY. It had been five days since what was supposed to be her date with Maeve. Both Eddie and Carmen had been asking her how it went but Alice had ignored their messages. She would talk to them whenever she talked to them, right now she didn't have the energy to hold a conversation with anyone.
The day after the date, on Sunday, Alice had tried messaging Maeve but none of her messages went through, only left on sent. She had tried calling Maeve but got a message that Maeve's phone was no longer in service. There were only two explanations for that and Alice was hoping it was the better of the two.
She had gone to the trailer park and was about to go to Maeve's when Cynthia called her back saying Maeve had asked for the lady to turn Alice away whenever she showed up for her, making the worst explanation true; Maeve had blocked Alice's number and no longer wanted Alice in her life.
Alice's fear had been right. Maeve played her. She knew how Alice felt and decided to toy with her feelings for her own amusement. Maeve didn't care about her, she just wanted to embarrass and humiliate her. Maeve didn't care at all, she never did.
That is what sent Alice over the edge. She had gone back to drinking daily. Her fridge was stocked with beer and she went to Brown's for a new bottle of whiskey or vodka daily for the past five days, maybe even two or three at once. Alice figured it was fine since she didn't promise abstaining from this, only cocaine and weed. This way, Alice wasn't going against her word.
