ALICE HADN'T AVOIDED MAEVE AFTER THAT SCARY REALISATION. In fact, she spent more time with the girl. Alice had realised that the buzz she got from being around Maeve, the high that she felt, was much better from any sort of alcoholic substance so she stayed around Maeve as much as she could.
A week. It had been a week since Alice had a single drop of alcohol and she wasn't even feeling the usual symptoms of withdrawal. Alice knew it wasn't a good thing that she was relying on Maeve for her sobriety but it felt so good that she couldn't stop.
Alice felt happier around her. Lighter. Freer. She knew it was wrong to be completely dependent on Maeve being in her life but she figured it was better than turning to substance abuse. Alice knew that it was wrong to be attached to a person but it wasn't something she could control. See, Alice only got addicted to what she did since they were a consistent thing in her life. With her broken home, unstable family relationships and deteriorating mental health, it was something that she knew would always be there if she needed it. They couldn't leave because they were inanimate things. That made her become attached and dependent on them which soon turned into an addiction. Now, she was dependent on Maeve who was consistent in her life which would lead to a much worse break when the younger girl leaves but Alice figured that was a problem for another day. She couldn't bring herself to care right now.
