chapter twenty four
{ unedited }
IT HAD BEEN TWO WEEKS AND ALICE WAS GENUINELY SURPRISED SHE HADN'T RELAPSED YET. She figured it was because she was always surrounded by people. In lessons, she would be with Izzy, Maeve, Steve or Aimee. At lunch, she'd be with Stella, Johnny and Jade. Alice had quickly realised Jade was a sweet person―kindhearted. She was like a breath of fresh air and Alice could see why Stella fell so quickly. After school, she'd be at Maria's bakery and she would spend the night either at Maeve's or Stella's. Being around did help with the temptation since she wasn't alone when they came and would always have someone to help her through it.
However, that came with the consequence of her constantly feeling like a burden. Her friends always tried to convince her they were okay with it and only wanted her to get better but Alice always felt like she was imposing on their lives and she hated it. She hated it but she couldn't stay away either since they were the ones helping her to stay clean.
Alice had yet to join a meeting. She always showed up at the building but never managed to take the step past the door. Eddie had come with her once for, what he deemed to be, moral support but he didn't put her down or shame her when she couldn't go in. He was telling her she'd get there in her own time and that's okay since she's doing okay without it so far.
