THE FRANCE TRIP WAS PASSING SLOWLY. After Friday night, they spent the whole of Saturday visiting museums and a memorial tower. Saturday night they were back at the hotel, being sent to their rooms by nine at night where they were supposed to stay till the morning to avoid disrupting the other guests. On the Sunday they went to a gun battery that was developed by the Germans during WW2 and spent the full day there. It was now Sunday evening―ten at night specifically―and Alice was waiting for Ruby to get out of the shower so that she could surprise her.

See, Alice spent a lot of time with Terry, the driver of the coach, when getting dizzy spells or feeling her head hurt. She had filled Mr Reyes in on why they were happening and he made an excuse for her to the two other teachers which allowed her to be excused. Thanks to Terry, Alice had learned that the hotel they were staying at was only an hour drive from Paris. Alice let it slip that Ruby would love to visit Paris and, once finding out Ruby was her girlfriend, Terry offered to be their chauffeur to the city whilst the teachers and other students slept. They would go in the night and come back in the morning before anyone woke, no one finding out where they went.
