August 2005

The rain teemed down. The thunder crashed overhead. Sebastian looked into the tearfilled eyes of the young darkhaired girl in front of him.

"Sebby, I don't want to go," she said. He pulled her into his arms, fighting back his own tears.

"Aly, you have to."

"Alyssa, come on. We have to leave now!" her father said, prising her off of the young German.

"No!!! Dad, I don't want to leave SiSi and Seb."

The older, blonde girl wrapped her arms around her father and her younger sister.

"Alyssa, you have to go before they come back!  You'll see me again.  I promise you.  I love you!"

Alyssa began sobbing as her father bundled her into the waiting car.  Alyssa's brother, Joel, was already settled into the front passenger seat playing Snake on his old battered Nokia.

Shutting the door, Nick Harper pulled his eldest daughter into his arms.

"Sienna, I'm going to miss you so much.  I wish you could come too."

"Get them to safety Dad.  I'll be ok.  I have Sebastian.  He won't let anything happen to me."

"I promise you Mr Harper.  They won't get anywhere near her."

"Dad, you have to go.  They'll be here soon.  Once they find out they're gone they'll look here first.   Just go.  If they catch you I dread to think what will happen."

Nick reluctantly let go of Sienna and climbed behind the wheel of the car.

Seb held his sobbing girlfriend as the car pulled off down the road, taking her brother and sister off to safety.

"Sienna, it's for their own safety. You know that. You have me. I will always be there for you Sienna. I love you liebling."

Sienna clung to him. Her clothes were soaked through, her blonde hair was plastered to her head and face.

"Seb, when will I see them again?"

"I don't know Sienna. Not until it's safe. Now
come on inside. You need to change into some dry clothes."

"I don't even know where they're going Seb," she wept, ignoring his pleas to get out of the rain.

"Sienna you know why."

"I know but it doesn't make it any easier." Seb led her back inside the house. His mother smiled sympathetically at the devastated girl.

"Have they gone Sebastian?" his father asked, coming out of the kitchen.

"Yes."

"Good. That house was not a place for young children."

Seb felt empty. He knew it was the right thing but he hated seeing Sienna so upset. In the two years they'd been together he'd barely ever seen her cry despite the struggles she'd gone through.

In fact this was only the third time.  The first had been when her grandmother back in England had died.

The second was when she thought he was going to. break up with her. He hadn't, he'd been planning a surprise 18th party for her.

Heike Vettel patted the seat next to her. Sienna sat and fell into the woman's embrace.

"You will see them again little one. They will be safe in England with your father. Don't feel guilty. You did what you thought was best."
