Mythili's POV

Dad...where are you? Just come back home. I'm scared...my thoughts wandered as I sat looking into the darkness from the balcony of my home.

We were living a happy and content life all these years. My dad treated us all like his precious treasure, especially me. He owned Mili industries and groups of hotels. But in the previous three years, we never expected that we would lose everything ...our business, our money, even our home is in debt. But I had confidence in my dad...We would regain everything we lost together. I thought as I suddenly felt all alone in my own home.

"Mithu...take a deep breath...It's going to be ok...if it's not ok then we will together make it ok, "I suddenly remembered the words of my love...my Dev. For everyone else, I was Mili, but for him, I was his Mithu. A lone tear was shed from my eyes as I remembered him. I shut my eyes to avoid thinking of my lost love. He was gone...long gone...and now my life is nothing but an empty shell.

I"m Mythili Sharma, daughter of Raman Sharma and Gayatri Sharma. My mother died when I was four years old, and ever since, my father has protected me under his wings. His very existence was me. Due to family pressure, he remarried my mother's sister Priyamvadha, and I have two siblings Aditi, who is five years younger than me, and Aakash, who is 12 years old.

Aditi is in college doing her degree program, and Aakash was still in school. Everything was good in our family except for my sister Aditi's sibling rivalry towards me. She resented me due to some unknown reason. But Aakash doted on me. Priya mom, though my stepmom, was not like the cruel stepmoms in stories. She treated me like her own child, maybe because she was my mom's sister and I was her niece. But there were times when I would miss my birth mother, especially when I saw the care and love she sometimes showered on Aditi and Aakash occasionally. Maybe the saying is true stepmother can never take the place of your own mother. But my dad held me close to him no matter what and pampered me with all the love in the world.

I was his Mili...his pride, his life, his everything. He used to flaunt me to the world, saying that I was his lucky charm. But everything changed after that fateful day in our life three years ago...Dad started doing some new projects and invested in areas in which he had no experience. Soon his business partners withdrew their support, and his business started going downhill. As a result, I dropped out of college as my college tuitions were too much for my dad to bear. I was doing my final year MBBS, and due to my family situation, I could not do my house surgency and complete my medical degree. I tried to help my dad by doing odd jobs, but he didn't let me by stating that he was still there to protect our family and me.

Today dad was more than happy in the morning before he left for office as he had found a new investor for his project. But I was feeling something odd from the morning...there was this strange fear grasping my heart the moment dad left for the company. I called dad's secretary by evening, and he informed me that the investor disapproved of dad's project and we had lost our last hope. I had been trying to call dad from that time, but he had switched off his phone.

It's almost midnight by now, and dad has not returned from the office. I walked to the living room and sat on the couch there, and at that very instant, our landline started ringing. I was startled by the sound but soon picked up the phone only to hear the most heartbreaking news.
