It was the following day and Derek was already gone when Jess woke up so she laid in bed for a while looking through the photos on her phone. Argent then started calling he so she answered immediately. "Hi, Chris. Thanks for helping last night, it was really appreciated."

"Not a problem but Allison can't know."

"I won't tell her. So what's up?" She asked, knowing there was a reason for his call.

"Do you think you could come over in a little bit?"

"Oh yeah sure. I've got an appointment I've got to go to first but I can come by afterwards?" She suggested.

"Yeah that's fine. I'll see you soon, Jess." Argent said before hanging up the phone. Jess looked at the time and realised she only had 10 minutes to get ready so she threw on a white tank top and black leggings, pulled her hair back into a low bun and ran out the door, grabbing a camo jacket and her bag on the way.

"Deaton?" She called out as she walked into the vet clinic. Jess had called Deaton last night in the woods when she was on her way to meet Argent, Scott, Derek and Isaac.

"Jessica, I've got everything set up. How are you feeling?"

"Nervous. Those pains last night-"

"Some women do get them during the early stages of their pregnancy, it may not be anything to worry about." Deaton spoke, trying to comfort her before leaving the room so she could get comfortable. "Were you only in pain last night or did something else also happen?"

"Like what?" Jess responded. "Also, you can come back in."

"Did you bleed at all? Have you felt your normal sickness since the pains?"

"A little bit of bleeding but no I haven't felt or been sick since the woods..." Jess trailed off, noticing Deaton had gone quiet. "Deaton?"

He turned the machine off before turning to her. "Did Derek hear a heartbeat this morning?"

"I don't know. He was gone before I woke up. What's wrong?"

"I uh I can't find a heartbeat, Jess... I'm sorry."

"What- What does that mean?" She asked, tears pooling in her eyes as she knew what it meant but needed that confirmation.

"It appears you've had a miscarriage... They're very common and can't be helped unfortunately. It wasn't you fault, Jessica, I promise you." He said as he placed a comforting hand on the girl's shoulder as she wept.

                                                                                       ~~~~~~
Jess was in the elevator up to the Argent's apartment, trying not to think about it. She knocked on his door and was immediately greeted.
"Jess! Thanks for coming over so- What's wrong?" He questioned as soon as he noticed her absent smile.
"I don't wanna talk about it, I'm sorry. What did you need me for?"
"Come here." He said as he opened his arms to her. She didn't move an inch though.
"Chris, I really don't want a hug or to talk, I just need a distraction."
"Okay... Well come in, I need to show you something in my study." Argent spoke as he gestured towards a closed door. She nodded and walked past him into the room. He followed behind her and cleared his desk to show her a mat.
"The Five-Fold Knot. Why do you have this?"
"I believe that this is what we're up against. I've only seen it a few times. A darach travels along with the current with everything; where it takes its victims, where it kills them and where the bodies are found."
