WEDNESDAY
7:20 AM
"Baby, your dad and I are going to be back home late today. You two should go ahead and have dinner without us" mom said.

I nodded my head and took my empty plate to the sink. I was about washing it when mom collected it from me.

"Get all the plates from the table, I'll take care of this" she said.

I did as she asked and went back to the dining room to help GG put on her backpack.

"How do you find Graham High so far?" Shawn asked while observing me from his seat.

"Fine"

"Rhy_"

I cut him off, "I don't want to be late for school. See you later, Shawn" I said without sparing him a glance, "Let's go GG"

I heard him sigh as I walked away with GG.

"Bye mom. Bye dad" GG said enthusiastically and ran ahead of me.

"See you"

"Have a great day you two"

I kept mum.

It's not that I don't like Shawn, well I can't say I like him either.

It's just I don't want to get attached to him because I know for sure, he'll get bored and walk out of our lives, just like dad.

This is the best way for me to protect myself and not get hurt all over again.

7:40AM
I stepped out of the car and walked into the school premises. Justin was standing in front of our block waiting for someone, I guess.

"Good morning, Justin"

"Good morning, Rhys. Someone doesn't look happy"

"Forget about it. Are you waiting for someone?"

"I was actually waiting for you"

"Ok? Why?" I lifted a brow at him.

"I want to walk you to your class" he shrugged.

"I can find my way to my class" I walked past him, "I don't need you to babysit me"

"I'm not babysitting you. I'm just looking out for you" he said.

We both walked through the hallways. I noticed the same kind of stares from yesterday.

"What did Rhys Davidson do today?" I asked him in annoyance.

"A few people saw you and Blaise leaving the school during lunch break yesterday"

"So? What wrong did I do? Why can't people mind their own damn business?"

Before Justin could utter a word a guy walked up to him, "Mr Jackson asked me to call you" he said.

Justin hesitated.

"I'll be fine" I assured him.

He pressed his lips in a thin line and sighed, "See you later, kiddo"
I rolled my eyes.

He is just about two years older and he acts like he's all grown up and I'm just a child.

He reluctantly walked away.

I turned to climb the stairs. Out of the blues, someone was standing in my way.

"I told you to stay away from him" Brenda said harshly.

"Oh Jesus Christ!" I sighed. "Sweetie, if you feel insecure about your so called "boyfriend" hanging out with other girls, then I really think you two should sit down and talk about this properly. Don't drag me into any of this" I made air quotes when I said boyfriend.

"The guts you have" she gritted her teeth and clawed at my face.

A hand grabbed hers mid air.
I stood there frozen in shock. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that she would actually attack me. Maybe I knew she might but at least not physically.

The bitch almost scarred me for life!

"Leave. Her. Alone" Gold warned and harshly shoved her hand to her side.

"Gold Adekoya" Brenda bellowed.

"Brenda Asshole" Gold challenged.

"Stay out of my way" she poked Gold's shoulder a few times with her perfectly manicured nails.

"No, you stay out of her way" Gold slapped her hand away.

Brenda fumed in rage, "Your choice" she walked off.

I looked around my surroundings for the first time and I saw a small crowd had gathered because of the little drama. None of these people even stood up for me.
Why did I even think they would?

"Waw" I drew out a shaky breathe.

"I know what you're thinking. That's just human beings for you. Let's go to class"

I nodded and followed her cursing my fate. I knew this wasn't over.

When we stepped into the classroom, Abel was not on his seat neither was his backpack at least to give us a sign that he was in school.

"Where is Abel?" I asked.

"He is under the weather" Gold replied.

"But yesterday he seemed perfectly fine to me" I said confused.

"That's what he told me this morning when he called. He asked me to take care of you"

How thoughtful of him. But is that supposed to make me feel better? He's the first person I met here and the nicest to me so far, not having him around didn't quite sit well with me.

"Can I have his mobile number?"

"Sure"

After getting his phone number from Gold I slipped my phone back into my backpack and replayed the previous events in my head. Maybe I was just a little shaken, but I couldn't shake off the fright that was slowly creeping in.

I shook my head to get rid of those thoughts.
I ran my fingers over my uninjured face.
If Gold hadn't stepped in things would have gotten really messy.
I turned to her and she was using her phone. I think chatting or so.

"Thank you so much. I don't know what would have happened if you didn't step in"

"I'm glad I could help" she smiled at me.

"What do I do about her?"

"I'm not sure. Talk to Blaise about it. He might know what to do with her" she shrugged and returned to her screen.

There was silence for a while.
"Nobody tried to stand up for me except you"

"About that" she placed her phone on her desk, "Brenda is evil personified and no one wants to be in her bad book because it never ends well for anyone who does"

"You got yourself into trouble for my sake, why?"

"Honestly I do not know. But there is one thing I do know. You owe, big time!" she said grinning.

I let out a small laugh, "I sure do"
This is the happiest I've been since morning.
Let's hope this day gets better.
