The long awaited Elijah POV is finally here!

Elijah's POV

I adjusted the strap of my backpack over my shoulder and cursed under my breathe as I approached the gate of my school.
I was having a bad day and a dull headache was slowly setting in.
First off, my father's car developed a fault and we were both late.
Then, I had to take the bus and sat next to this dude with life threatening mouth odour who wouldn't just shut up and the other guy beside me had body odour.

“What happened to brushing properly? What happened to oil perfumes that are as cheap as 500 Naira?” I hissed.

I had to sniff my shirt to be sure that I did not pick up any foul smell from the bus.
Luckily my white shirt came out unscathed. No creases. No stains.

I’m never using the bus again. If Justin wasn't such an asshole, I would not be in this kind of situation.

Speaking of Justin. I saw him arguing with Rhys not far from the gate. I approached them.
I just hoped he was not fighting with her over the last conversation I had with him.

“That’s what I thought” Rhys said bitterly and stormed off almost bumping into me.

“Are you alright?” I asked her in concern.

She just shoved past me without a word.

“Rhys!” I called after her but she completely ignored me.

“Just stay away from her” Justin warned me.

“Are you being serious now? Don't you realize that you're only making things worse?” I stared at him incredulously.

“Mind your damn business”

“My buddy's business is my business” I stated matter-of-factly.

He looked at me from head to toe. “Did you take the bus?”

“Yes and I'm never using town service buses to school. It's terrible”

Justin rolled his eyes. “You sound like a girl complaining about the slightest discomfort, particularly Rhys”

Her name made me want to smile. It was a little weird how quickly she had that effect on me for someone who I barely talked with.

I forced a scowl. “F$ck you” I muttered. “You have a weird way of apologizing, you know that right?”

He chuckled and scratched his non-existent beard. “I freaked out that day”

“I understand”

“I want you to swear to me that nothing is going on between you and Rhys and that it never will” he looked me straight in the eye.

That was unexpected.
I was a little conflicted. I hesitated and I wondered why. It's not like I liked Rhys or anything. It felt like I was signing up for something that was going to complicate things later.

Asides our childhood days, I had not interacted much with Rhys and most of the times we did interact, we fought.
There was always that friction between us. I couldn't tell exactly when things started to change.
It's not like I liked her or anything, there was really nothing to lose here...or not.

Justin arched a brow at me due to my delayed response.

“I’m just a little disappointed that you still think I've taken a liking for Rhys” I told him seriously. “I don't like Rhys like that and nothing will ever happen between us”
I said and adjusted my tie.
I suddenly felt so suffocated. It got very irritating when Justin was being like this.
“Excuse me” I turned away from him and walked into the gates.

I caught sight of Rhys talking with one of her dancer classmates, Seun or Segun, I wasn't even sure.
It was sickening how close yet far away she seemed from me.
I was not even sure why distance mattered to me right now.

Davis was right. I needed to stay far away from her if I was going to protect my friendship with Justin.
Bro code.
I loosened my tie again.

“Senior Elijah!” I heard a way too familiar female voice call my name.

I pretended not to hear her and I hurried towards the building housing my classroom.
Balafama a classmate and an acquaintance who was standing at the door talking to another classmate gave me a wry smile.

I subtly dragged my thumb over my neck indicating I was going to kill him if he screwed things up for me.

“Hey you! What are you doing there?!” he asked the girl in an authoritative voice.

“I want to meet senior Elijah” the fear in her voice evident.

“Don’t you have other things to do? Leave this place!” he ordered harshly and she ran off fearfully.

“Did you have to be so mean?” I asked him as I approached him at the door.

“You are welcome” he said drily. “You could have at least collected the snacks she brought for you”

I stared at him incredulously, “Bala she's a junior!”

“Why does it matter? If you don't want the gifts girls bring for you then feel free to send them to my desk”

I ignored him and greeted Helen, the girl with him.

“I just saw Rhys” Helen said and studied my face.

“Okay” I schooled my features.

“Wait a minute” she burst into laughter and then managed to speak again. “The two of you are an item, aren't you? It's really funny how you let her come in first then you waited a few minutes later before coming in”

I wasn't one for small talk. I rarely ever cared what people thought of me but Rhys was involved here. I could just walk away but I found myself rooted at the spot.

“There is nothing to hide, Helen. If we were an item, trust me, I certainly wouldn't hide it from anyone. If you have more questions, you should ask Rhys directly. She has a way of answering these kinds of questions”
I walked away and headed for my classroom.

“What was that about?” Justin asked falling into step with me. “Seems pretty much like you don't even want to deny your so-called relationship”

“What do you want again?” I snapped at Justin. “I am having a really rough start so please do not add to my headache”

“I will try not to take this to heart. You are probably just stressed from the rigorous training from last week and the weekend”

I did not utter another word till we reached our classroom.

“Whatup, bro?”

My social battery was draining with each word I uttered.
I was annoyed with everyone.
I barely spoke to people but today the universe was insisting on engaging me in meaningless chatter.

“Ignore him” Justin said to the guy. “He is probably on his time of the month”

I did not know whether to be grateful to him for sending the guy off or to break his head for saying something like that.

“You are absolutely welcome!” he told me with a shit eating grin.

“F$ck you” I sneered at him.

“Not a chance” he said bashfully.

I almost emptied my guts at the sight before me.
Drama queen.

A/N

I love friendship among guys. It's a lot less dramatic than what happens between girls.
Sometimes they can be fighting over something and still be friends!

I tried as best as I could to get into a teenage guy's head and write this.

I hope you loved this.
