“How was school today?” I asked GG and placed her plate of jollof rice and salad in front of her.
“Fun!” she clapped her hands excitedly, ”Sophie and I had lots of fun”
“Seems like you really like Sophie”
She bobbed her head up and down.
I smiled in content. Thanks to this Sophie girl, my little Ginger is slowly going back to her old self.
“How was your day?” she asked and peered curiously.
“Fine”
“Did you pay with some fends? Did you have fun?” she asked.
I thought of Blaise. He was really a vibe. He actually added a lot of colour to my day.
A smile fanned my lips.
“First of all, I didn't play. Secondly, I didn't exactly have fun but I had a nice day”
“Was it a boy?” a weird smile crossed her face.
Why is she giving me that look? “Yes”
She squealed causing me to place my palms over my precious ears. “Jeez! Do you want to completely destroy my ear drum? Why are you so excited? What does a five year old know about boys?”
“A yot” she replied smugly. That's supposed to be 'a lot', .... just in case you didn't notice.
“Did you see Sophie's brother?”
I remembered the boy at the door, “I think so?”
“Is he not hot?” she asked.
My jaw dropped to the floor. I think it took me five hours to pick it right up. “What kind of movies are you already watching? Where are you learning all of these from?” I smacked the back of her head.
“Ow!” she pouted and glared at me. “I know more than you do”
“I don't doubt it. Now eat!”
We continued our banter till we were done eating and doing the dishes. I helped GG with her Home Work and we watched tv afterwards.
It was already way past GG's bedtime and there was no sign of mom and Shawn. I swallowed a lump in my throat and tried to shut out the thoughts slowly creeping in.
I took GG to my room and we cuddled to sleep. She dozed off in my arms while I remained wide awake. I stared at my alarm clock and the time read 9:28PM. Beside the clock was the gold watch Shawn gifted me. I finally dozed off too.
I opened my eyes and looked at the alarm clock on my bedside table. 5:30AM That's strange. It's supposed to be ringing but it's not.
My watch was not on the table and GG.... GG was gone! Warning bells rang in my head.
My breathing became ragged, ‘Calm down, Rhys. You're probably just overthinking this’ How can I be calm?! I jumped off my bed and sprinted downstairs.
