*(Y/n)'s POV*

"Meet, the human brain." Mr. Clarke set down a plastic brain on the table in display. The four of us were pretty intrigued in what lecture Mr. Clarke had in store for us today than everyone else in the classroom. I couldn't help but look over to Will who seemed...distracted. "I know, I know, it doesn't look like much. A little gross, even, right? But consider this. There are a hundred billion cells inside of this miracle evolution all working as one."

Mike, Lucas, Dustin and I exchanged excited looks.

"No, no, I did not misspeak. I did not stutter. A hundred billion."

One of the girls had popped their chewing gum in the back, and the whole class simultaneously looked over to the door. "Ah, this must be our new student." We saw a red-headed girl walk in with a bag over her shoulder, and the principal following behind her.

"Indeed it is." The principal said. "All yours."

I watched her walking towards mine and Mike's direction to grab a seat, until Mr. Clarke stopped her. "All right, hold up." He said, holding a hand up. I heard a sigh from her and she sounded annoyed which surprised me. "You don't get away that easy."

I watched her roll her eyes.

"Come on up, don't be shy."

Suffice it to say, I don't think she cared. She had that much vibe emitting of it around her. The girl stepped back to where Mr. Clarke wanted her to stand. "Dustin?" Mr. Clarke said. "Drum roll."

Dustin closed his book and started patting his palms on the book.

"Class, please welcome, all the way from sunny California, the latest passenger to join us on our curiosity voyage, Maxine." Mr. Clarke announced, and Dustin hit the last beat.

"It's Max." She whispered, looking away.

"Sorry?"

"Nobody calls me Maxine. It's Max."

The five of us exchanged looks and saw the connection. Lucas was the first to whisper to us, "Mad Max...."

"Well," Mr. Clarke said, in a super friendly way. "Welcome aboard, Max."

She took a seat in the back corner that was empty, and the five of us turned around in our seats to look at her. She slouched in her seat, with her arms crossed. I knew she didn't like the fact that we were staring at her, but I couldn't help but grin.

She was so cool.

At recess, we were all pretty much spying on the new girl. I felt a tad guilty about it. "There's no way that's Mad Max." Mike said.

The other boys had their hands clawed in the fences to take a peak at Max rolling on her skateboard.

"Yeah, girls don't play video games." Will spoke up suddenly, and then he noticed me raising an eyebrow at him with my arms crossed. Everyone else sniffed and acted like nothing was said.

"Oh, you think I don't?" I rolled my eyes with a side smile.

"Oh, I-I, uh, except for you, (Y/n)!" Will chuckled nervously.

"But not even (Y/n) can get 750,000 points on Dig Dug!" Mike said. I really wanted to punch both of them. "That's impossible."

"But her name is Max." Lucas insisted.

"So, what?" I asked, ignoring the fact that Mike also insulted me.

"So, how many Maxes do you know?" He asked back.
