You're passing the houses while sitting in the car, being driven around by Aimsey who's fully focused on the road. George and you are sitting on the backseats, both turned away from each other while you're looking out of the window. Your daughter is driving you to the outer parts of the City, where the Summer Feast should be held. At first, it wasn't meant to be there, but for some reason, Tubbo ended up contacting Aimsey to tell her that they changed the place, and instead will hold it in a park near the Devil's Bridge, which Hannah has taken care of for the past months.

You only wish that weren't the case. Now you have to be together with George in a car, after all.

After your lash-out at him, which happened after your meeting with Quackity's crew, things have been a lot more awkward. George has sent you angry side-glances, chosen to ignore you when you ask him to perform certain tasks, or just straight out left the room when you entered. And honestly, you hate this entitled behaviour of his. You know that your words must have offended him and honestly, if it weren't for your own harmed soul, you would've probably hated yourself more than usual after screaming at him like that. But on the other hand, you can't feel any empathy towards someone who just expects to be treated well. If he didn't want to be yelled at, then he should've never shouted at you to begin with.

You're colleagues. You don't have to be friends with him, or even know each other that well. And hell, you don't even think that 'colleagues' is the right word to describe your relationship. You're the one meant to hold the City together. You and George don't have what Connor and Schlatt had, since they already knew each other before ever gaining as much power and knowledge as you and George have gained individually. You feel nothing for him. If he were to join the Egg, whether this would be on purpose or an accident, you'd not hesitate to pull the trigger, and Glatt's words already indicated that he must've lost himself and slowly will continue falling into that rabbit hole, just like Wilbur did. Just like Sapnap did. Just like they all did.

It's hard to work together with someone when you don't know how to trust them. And you know that that's also why this job is so great for you, if you were to actually perform it only with your daughter. The President of the Deserts and the City, needs to be trusted, but doesn't need to trust those who have to believe in them. The people have to believe you, but you don't have to believe them.

However, having to work together with someone like George is almost impossible, since he takes everything so personally and fails to separate his personal life from his professional life. He doesn't trust Aimsey, since in his eyes it's unhealthy for you to consider her to be your child. And this lack of trust also affects the way these two work – or rather don't work – together. Because he thinks you're impulsive, whether he considers this to be a part of your personality or a symptom of the illness, he doesn't think of you as he should. He may insist feeling like the two of you should be equals, but in the meanwhile, you're sure that he thinks of you as vermin who doesn't belong in that place to begin with.

And now that argument. That affects your work now too.

You glance over at George, catching him in looking at you. Once you make eye contact with him, he immediately looks away, focusing on the window. You tense the muscles in your leg, trying to throw the one over the other despite the lack of space, as you let out a deep and shaky breath. Instead of your usual, neat suit, you decided to wear a green summer dress, with a singular glove on your left arm to cover the rashes and blisters that have spread all over it. Your robotic arm, meanwhile, is something you'll show the people there proudly, hoping that your deceitful grin will hide the deep scars caused by the trauma.

To make the metal arm look a bit less intimidating, Aimsey insisted on putting a few flowers where it would not prevent the machine from working properly. It's quite sweet she did that. The gladioluses, according to her, represent the strength behind the story which harmed you, making you feel even better to walk around with it.
