|RED'S POV |

Stepping out of the car cautiously, my heart raced with both fear and curiosity. The eerie silence, devoid of any bird chirps, sent shivers down my spine. The darkness seemed alive, whispering ominous secrets to anyone brave enough to venture into its depths. Each hoot of an owl felt like an eerie warning, making my skin crawl.

Lost in my thoughts, my uncle's impatient voice snapped me back to reality as he walked ahead, clearly annoyed by my concerns.

"Is it just you who can hear my thoughts?" I asked hesitantly.

He sighed, showing some patience. "It depends."

"How?" I pressed, eager for answers.

Stopping abruptly, he turned to me with irritation. "Most creatures, especially hunters, can read minds. It's practical for tracking prey."

"Practical?" I echoed, puzzled.

"Yes, it helps us anticipate their moves," he explained.

"But I'm not your prey," I objected, feeling a mix of defiance and fear.

He studied me, his eyes full of ancient wisdom. "How do I stop it?" I asked urgently.

He rose his brows. "Stop what?"

"I can't deal with you reading my mind," I snapped, frustration bubbling up inside me. "You told me to hide who I am, but how can I when so many of your kind can hear everything I'm thinking? This has to stop!"

A heavy silence filled the air, thick with unspoken truths. It felt like the ground beneath me was shifting, and the fog around us twisted like ghostly fingers. The owl's hoots echoed louder, almost taunting me for my struggle to understand this strange world.

"Okay," he finally gave in, his voice reluctantly agreeing. "But blocking me out won't be easy, Red."

I nodded firmly, determination shining in my eyes. "Teach me," I urged, my voice unwavering.

"Not here," he warned, his tone cautious. "It's not safe."

"Do they know about this place?" I whispered, realizing the danger of our situation.

"I don't think so," he replied uncertainly. "But we shouldn't take any chances."

"Good," I murmured, a spark of hope igniting within me. "Consider it my first lesson."

A faint smile touched his lips. "You're getting it,"

He motioned for me to come closer, his voice barely audible in the darkness. "Close your eyes."

I obeyed, shutting out the world around me and focusing inward.

"Keep your mind clear," he instructed softly, his words barely more than a whisper in the void. "Imagine nothing."

I struggled to understand, confusion clouding my thoughts.

"I don't get it," I admitted, frustration creasing my brow.
