"I've tried everything." I groaned as I trudged into the kitchen. Rudy was eating chocolate chip cookies while leaning over the counter, we were both exhausted, "Every time I think she's asleep, I turn around and her eyes are wide open staring at me."

"Let me try." He finished chewing the cookie and swallowed it. Before leaving the kitchen he gently grabbed onto my upper arms and kissed the top of my head, "Did you try talking about the fairies?"

"Tinker Bell?" I chuckled while following him to our daughters bedroom door, "Yes, I talked about the fairies." When he cracked the door open I sat onto the ground and out of sight so she wouldn't see me. If both of us went into her room she would think it's playtime when really it's the opposite, it's nearly two o'clock in the morning.

"Hey, love bug." Rudy chimed and I heard him lift her from her crib. She was three and had the cutest fairy themed room, her favorite thing in the world being Tinker Bell and her fairy friends, "I know a story you're mom has never told you, because she doesn't know it."

I quietly cracked the door open more so I could hear better, intrigued by this story I've apparently never heard. I know every bedtime story, so what one could he be talking about?

"Seven years ago, way before your time, there was a boy and a girl. This wasn't just any girl, she was the most beautiful girl the boy had ever seen." As he spoke I leaned my head onto the door frame as I sat criss-cross on the carpeted floor, "From the moment he saw her, he knew she was his forever. That no other girl in the entire world could make him feel the way she did.  So, he did everything he could to find out all of her favorite things."

He paused for a brief moment and when I peaked around the corner I saw our daughter laying her head on his shoulder as he swayed back and forth in place, "A week later he had found out her favorite color was blue, sunflowers were her favorite flower, and she loved snowboarding. After another week he had finally gathered the courage to ask her out, and guess what? She said yes."

My heart melted when I realized he was telling our daughter the story of us. Our own unique love story. One she could grow up hearing and learning about real love, how pure and gentle it truly is.

"The boy brought her a bouquet of sunflowers, wore his favorite blue shirt, and asked her on a date to the mountains. She was a little weirded out at first," He let out a hushed laugh, "because those were all her favorite things. She would not stop talking about how they must be meant to be because of how big of a coincidence it was...but it wasn't, your dad was just madly in love with your mom before she even knew who he was."

I crawled away from the door, standing up once I was far enough away, and walked to me and Rudy's room where I flipped on the TV and got ready for bed. My lips were formed in a permanent soft smile and my cheeks were hot from blushing, finding the story he told absolutely adorable. I had no idea he went through so much effort before even knowing who I was.

"Bingo," Rudy entered the room, "she's asleep," His hand slowly and silently closed our bedroom door and he slipped off his shirt, leaving him in dark sweats, "I missed you today." He laid on top of me and hugged me tightly. Rudy has been busy with interviews and events, so he hasn't been home much during the day.

"I missed you, too," I combed through his hair with my fingers, "I have a question for you."

"Anything." He peaked his head up to look at me, resting his elbows in either side of my body to hover slightly over me.

"How did you find all that stuff out?" I asked, "The flowers, the snowboarding, all of it." I elaborated.

"So you heard that?" He chuckled and lowered his forehead to my chest briefly before picking it back up, "I asked your sister."

"You sneaky little—not fair!" I began giggling as his hands tickled my sides and did my best to be quiet since our daughter had just fallen asleep, "Ru-Rudy I can't breath!" My laughter flooded the room and I saw his smile grow wider as I rolled away from him.

"It's totally fair, it scored me a date with you." He finally stopped tickling me and opened his arms to snuggle, I happily accepted and fixed the blankets around us, "The rest was all me, swear. I learned everything else on my own. Like your fear of spiders and obsession with cooking shows."

"Oh my gosh, can we please watch one?" I begged and he jokingly rolled his eyes while reaching behind him to grab the remote off the nightstand, "You're the best." I complimented once the remote was in my hand.

"I know." He smiled very matter-of-factly. When the cooking show started to play I leaned over and switched the lamp off and returned to my spot next to him, "I love you."

"I love you, too." I replied as my eyes watched the screen. As the minutes ticked by my head slowly managed to fall until I landed onto Rudy's chest, meaning another five minutes and I'd be fast asleep, "Babe, can you tell that story again?"

"The one of us?" He asked. I hummed a quiet 'mhm' as a response, "There was a boy and a girl, this wasn't just any girl..."

I listened intently until sleep began taking over, making it impossible to keep my eyes open as I looked up to him. His eyes softened when they looked into mine, he took his hand and traced the side of my face as he brushed some hair behind my ear, "sweet dreams, beautiful."

"Sweet dreams, baby."
