When we get off the bus, we see lane with two coffees.
"Hi." We say
"Hi." Lane replies back. "I thought you might like some coffee, since... you always do. I didn't know you were going to be here, so I didn't get you a tea tori. I'm sorry."
"Thanks." Rory says
"No, it's okay." I reassure lane and there's an awkward silence.
"So this feels very awkward." Lane speaks up
"I'm a big girl, lane. I don't need you to protect me from things." Rory states
Ooh, this was about how lane kept it a secret that Dean was her partner for a science project. Rory had told me.
"I just didn't want to make you any sadder." Lane explains
"How is you telling me that gonna make me sadder?" Rory asks
"I don't even wanna bring up his name around you."
"That's crazy." Rory exclaims
"Have you seen your face when you mention Dean?" Lane questions
"My face is fine."
"Your face is far from fine." Lane says
"I'll get over it." Rory tells her
"You're not yet."
"Maybe I'd get over it quicker if everyone weren't busy trying to protect me from all the bad, scary things in the world!"
"Fine! I won't protect you anymore!" Lane exclaims
"Glad to hear it." Rory starts to slowly walk.
"Next time we're walking down the street and your about to walk into traffic, I'll give you a push." Lane explains
"Exactly what I'm talking about."
"I'm the spirit of not protecting you, I was gonna tell you I couldn't study tonight because I had bible class, but that's not true. I've got to meet Dean again." Lane says
"Great. That's for the honesty."
"And I'll probably have to see him again this weekend cause the project is due on Monday." Lane explains
"I don't care. I'll see you when I see you."
"Fine!" Lane exclaims
"Fine!"
"Bye!" Lane walks away.
"Hey, where's lane going?" Mom asks us as she walks up behind us.
"Away." Rory mumbles
"Okay. You've been in this mood for a week now. And while I love the unexpected ups and downs of motherhood, I'm tired of goofus and I'd like my gallant back." Mom explains
"You can't just say a normal sentence?" Rory asks. "Just 'hey, let's talk' is too dull for you."
"Hey, let's talk." Mom grabs rory's arm to stop her.
"About what?"
"I have an idea. How about you and Mr Medina?" I suggest, annoyed that mom didn't tell us.
"What?" Mom turns to face me.
"I heard you've gotten back together again." I explain
"Did you talk to max?" Mom questions
"He had us stay after class to talk about my breakup and why Tori was spaced out." Rory continues
"We are not dating! We've been talking and we have just now decided to start dating." Mom says
