Alex gets a call from someone he hasn't heard from in a very long time. Inspired by something I saw on AO3.

"Good morning Granny, Gramps," Alex yawned as he entered the kitchen, he gave his grandma a kiss on the cheek and his grandpa a hug before sitting across from Gramps at the table.

"Here you go, dear," His grandma smiled, placing his usual breakfast, pancakes, eggs, hashbrowns, and a glass of milk, in front of him.

"Thanks Granny, can I help you with anything today? Any errands I can do for you?" Alex offered as he cut up his pancakes.

"Not today, Alex, but thank you for offering," Granny replied as she sat her and her husband's breakfast down.

Alex helped his grandmother clean up the table after breakfast. He was about to start the dishes when the landline in the living room rang.

"I'll finish up those, dear, could you get the phone please?" Granny asked. Alex nodded with a smile and quickly went to get the phone before it stopped ringing.

"You've reached the Mullners," Alex said as he picked up the phone.

"Alex? That you?" Shivers ran up Alex's spine as soon as he heard the voice. He knew that haunting voice anywhere.

"Why are you calling?" Alex said through gritted teeth.

"What? A guy can't call his son?" His father laughed. A casual laugh. Not a 'I abused the boy i'm talking to for 16 years' kind of laugh.

"No. Not you. Not after 7 years." Alex tried to swallow the hard lump in his throat. He tried to keep his voice down, to not alert his grandparents in the kitchen.

"Gosh, has it really been that long? Well, I'm in Zuzu City this week and figured I should stop by the valley, so we can catch up," That is where Alex lost it.

"Catch up? Catch up?! You are not welcome in this house. Hell, you aren't welcome in this town. You walked out on me and mom after 16 horrible years of trauma and abuse. You didn't even attempt communication for the past 7 years. And you want to stop by and catch up?!" He all but shouted, gripping the phone so tightly it would shatter if it was any tighter.

"Alex? What's the shouting about?" Gramps grunted as he wheeled himself into the room.

"It's nothing Gramps, I'm sorry," Alex took a deep breath.

"Old George eh? Is Evelyn there? Can't believe their still around, figured they'd kick it long ago, can't believe Clara went before those old nuts," The man laughed.

"Don't you dare talk about mom like that! You're a vile monster! You have no right to talk about her! She deserved so much better than you! All you ever did was horrible things to her! To us! So I'm sorry that I'm not ecstatic that you called after all these years," Alex was crying now. How dare he mention Clara? She was an angel.
