Chapter 14: Speed

As the team explains to Taehyung the new components of the engine and the rest of the vehicle, Jungkook quietly stands on the track in front of the pit box. When he was younger, he would dream of making it to a Formula 1 track. Everything about racing makes the blood in his veins flow, including the only Korean racer on a Formula 1 team.

"Everything sounds amazing." Taehyung hums as he buzzes with excitement for the new season, his final season.

"Are you sure that you want to retire after this season? You seem to be very excited." Taehyung's manager asks when he notices how excited Taehyung is.

"I am excited, but I am excited about this being my final season. I am a CEO, but my friend has been running the company for me while I am away. I am excited to take on my responsibilities. I am excited about making my final season my best season." Taehyung explains and then looks over at the man he loves. "I am excited not to have to race to feel alive."

"You have a home now." Taehyung's manager smiles when he notices who Taehyung is smiling at.

"I have always had my brother, but I needed an escape from his illness and the pain of my marriage. Now, I have the strength and comfort I need to be able to support my brother the way he needs me to." Taehyung smiles brightly and makes sure his gloves are strapped on correctly. "Are the sensors working?" He asks as he looks at his team.

"They are." They respond with a thumbs up.

"Good." Taehyung hums and then turns his attention to Jungkook. "Do you want to stay in the pit since this is a practice race?"

"I can do that?" Jungkook asks in surprise.

"Sure. It's a practice race." The team manager responds.

"I would like that." Jungkook smiles and nods in excitement.

"The press is flooding this place." The manager mutters as he looks at the press filling the practice race.

"Sorry. My personal life is erupting." Taehyung mutters with a frown.

"Until your divorce is finalized, do not be affectionate with him. It is your final season, so we want to make sure it is the best one." The manager tells Taehyung.

"Okay." Taehyung nods and looks at Jungkook with a pout.

"I will not stop him from sitting in the club section since you have many friends who come to watch your races. Just be careful." The manager hums and then walks away.

"You have a really nice manager. Most managers are very strict." Jungkook smiles encouragingly at Taehyung.

"Very true. He is nice." Taehyung nods and then motions for Jungkook to go to the pit.

"Be careful." Jungkook softly tells Taehyung before going into the pit.

Once the practice race starts, Jungkook watches in awe as Taehyung speeds away. Tae, thank you for living our dream for both of us.

As Taehyung races, Jimin, Yoongi, and Hoseok sit in the club box together. Yoongi watches in awe as Taehyung expertly drives through the track.

"He's incredible," Yoongi mutters in awe.

"How else do you think he beat all of those Europeans for the spot on his team? He had to be exponentially better than them to even be spared a glance." Jimin explains with a proud smile. "You should have seen the coach's shocked expression when Taehyung destroyed even their main team."

"He had the best opponent growing up. The others are nothing to him." Hoseok grins and drinks his beer.

"Is there usually this much press at a practice?" Yoongi asks as he looks at the sea of journalists.
