I went back to my room to find Tara unpacking her suitcase. She looked at me and smiled softly.— Is she okay?
— She laid down and watching Pretty Little Liars — I said and shrugged
It took me about twenty minutes to convince her to stay in the room. She probably won't listen to me anyway. She was saying something about wanting to enjoy the cruise, go for a drink, and sunbathe. It's all okay, if not for the fact that our parents can see her like this at any time. Fuck, I don't want her to have any more problems than she already has. And Blake and Kate won't send her to rehab. It would ruin the reputation. Mainly because of that, I didn't end up there myself.
— They brought food at that time — Tara nodded her head at the table
— I'm not hungry at all.
I lost all the enthusiasm that had appeared in me for a moment when I was talking to Tara about my birthday.
I crossed the room and laid down on the bed staring at the girl. I have a feeling she doesn't want to be here at all and I don't blame her for that.
She's on a ship with someone that she used to hate. We haven't established what we are. My fucking parents and my ex are here. An ex that I have to keep an eye on so she doesn't get drugged and jump overboard.
— Does it bother you that I'm trying to help Jill? — I asked
I don't want her to feel bad. I just don't want Jill to destroy herself.
Tara got up and came to sit next to me. So another conversation. It started with a lack of communication, and now we can't keep quiet.
— I'm not mad. I understand, she is important to you.
— Yes, she is — I reluctantly admitted and took Tara's hand to play with her fingers — I thought I could hate her but...I can't. She will be in my life anyway, whether we want it or not.
Tara gave me that supportive look of hers. This lifted my spirits a bit.
— I just can't forget what she did to you — she said and her eyes are sad now — Amber, you were fifteen and she was already an adult. It wasn't right.
— I know. Now I know — I looked into her eyes — But you and I...we are right.
Tara smiled softly and leaned in to rest her forehead against mine. We intertwined our fingers and I placed my other hand on her nape.
I feel so comfortable with her like never before.
— Amber... — she started — I'm sorry it all has to be a secret. I'm just afraid to came out — she said
I was surprised she brought up this topic. I thought she'd rather not talk about it.
— You have nothing to apologize for. It's okay — I answered honestly
I really don't mind. I hope I never made her feel this was a problem.
— I didn't tell you this, but...when I lived with my dad, I told him I liked girls.
— Really? — I asked surprised and I pulled back to look at her — How did he react?
Tara put her head down and gripped my hand tighter. So it wasn't good...
— Well, I'm in Woodsboro. He kicked me out.
Oh.
What a motherfucker. I bit my lip and pulled Tara closer to hug her. I'm sorry this happened to her. She didn't deserve it.
