"What the fuck do you do to get through days like this?" I whined to Don as we exited our last meeting of the day together. I wasn't even sure what the time was anymore, I had left my phone locked up in my office for most of the day.

"I drink." Don replied simply as I let him lead us through the countless now empty offices.

Jeez, I thought, it must've been even later than I was thinking.

"Fair," I told Don, doing my best to match his brisk walk. Clearly he was ready to get the hell outta here himself. I tried to keep away from liquor whenever a busy day wore me thin, but I understood the appeal.

"After the week we just had though, may I suggest something stronger... Like crack."

I let out an unexpectedly chuckle from behind him. If this day stripped everything else from us, I was proud to see Don still kept his wits.

My office was as cold as I had left it this morning. Don escorted me all the way there before he said his quick goodbyes and left. He had gotten a shit parking spot today so I'm sure that only ground his gears more to get the hell out. I, on the other hand, wasn't so lucky.

As soon as that phone screen unlocked, I was bombarded with notifications. One had come in from Onyx, but I was way more concerned with the countless missed calls from Brad, Christian, and Derek. The final text I got to was one from Brad, which simply said:

Herold's sick. We're at the animal hospital.

I almost dropped my phone at that, opting to re-read Brad's vague ass text till I was sure that's all the information I had, then I called him.

"Jesus man, what the fuck!" Was Brad's first words through the line. I was already gathering up all my office items by the time the call went through and connected.

"The fuck happened?" I replied to the man that was tasked the simple task of checking on on Herold while I was away. This was supposed to be a convenience for both of us considering he needed to pick up numerous documents from my office as the week progressed on.

"Listen man, I don't know. I think Herold ate something. When I went back this afternoon to pick up the printed docusign info, I came back to him throwing up everywhere."

I could already start to feel that biting panic settling in. From the sounds of it, Herold didn't go gently into that good night with getting him to the hospital.

"I want to smother your fucking heaven of an animal with a pillow." Brad muttered more to himself, yet the call picked up on it and I couldn't help but roll my eyes. Herold and the Ivanov's just didn't mix. Ever.

"How did you get him in the carrier?" I asked. Once the final stack of documents made it into my briefcase, I was out the door, barely remembering to lock up behind me before I started for the parking garage.
