Illumi: Injury

As I stand back up, the unconscious redhead still in my arms, the man who injured her proceeded to sputter a string of nonsensical insults. Upon closer inspection, I saw that Akira also had a cut lip and a bleeding temple. The bones at the back of her knees felt dislocated and the muscles on her nape was unusually soft and warm; blood must be seeping out of there as well.

Turning my eyes back to the male, I expelled enough Nen to pin him where he stood. Apparently, it worked too well and his knees buckled, causing him to land pathetically on the carpeted floor.

This was not how I envisioned coming here would be, but this is far more entertaining.

"Why did you have to hurt her?" I impassively ask, "I understand that Yakuza-san is an occasionally insufferable wench, but to come so far as to bring her to the brink of death is low. Whatever the cause."

"None of this concerns you, Illumi Zoldyck." He snarls, "She is my wife!"

My jaw clenches, and I sigh in contempt. Perhaps he has the cognitive size of a teaspoon to mistake that betrothal is the same as marriage; as much as I like the idea of enlightening him, the injuries that Yakuza-san has taken limits my time.

I gradually extrude my power in large quantities, and it didn't take long for the man to faint. Casting another glance at Yakuza's state, I leave the room, easily weaving through the mansion and the estate. I was pleased that I didn't lower my guard because multiple staff members were waiting for my arrival at the gate. Mortifying as it might be to do so, I held onto Yakuza tighter, though not enough to hurt her into consciousness.

"Please, Young Master Illumi..." They reason, "Bring Young Master Akira to the infirmary. Our doctors can quickly aid her injuries and help her recover."

My visage remains blank, but just this once I let my Nen speak for me. They visibly became incapacitated by it, though I held back after expressions of fear came to their faces, "I'm not saying I question the security within the Yakuza Estate, but not a single one of you were able to keep her safe. She was getting beaten in her own room; her life depended on pure luck, so perhaps I am questioning your security. I am giving you one chance to let me leave with her."

I stand firm.

"Illumi."

I turn my eyes to the source of the voice; a brunette woman emerged from the woods at the side. I suppressed my power respectfully as she eyed the staff that was watching the exchange, "You can leave."

"As you wish, Amira-sama!" Came the chorus, before the audience promptly dismissed themselves.

The eldest Yakuza child then looked back at me, attempting to approach. When I took a step back, she gave me a pointed look. Though it served as a reprimand on any other normal circumstance, nobody came to Akira's aid as she was bruised and beaten by someone she could so easily pummel.

"Don't be like that." Amira-san says, "You're carrying my baby sister."

I blink passively, "Your baby sister was brought to the brink of death in your own mansion. I believe that grants me the freedom to behave however I see fit."

She rolls her eyes, "Your cynicism is misplaced. Julian isn't as unprofessional as he looks."

"Is that why he is promised to her?" I couldn't stop myself from querying, "You speak about unity within family, yet you have no qualms about the apathy of the pig Akira is getting married to?"

"Illumi." Her tone and expression grew emotionless, putting a halt to my words almost immediately, "Stop talking."

I pause, confused. And then, Akira began to stir. It was a minuscule movement, barely recognizable, but I also felt her Nen stop fluctuating for a moment. So I assess her visible injuries, but as I do, I failed to see the glint come to Amira-san's eyes.

"Give this to her", she put something cold and solid in my right hand, situated under Akira's knees, "when she comes to. Tell her that it would help in any internal conflicts she is to face, like how it helped me."

"And if she pries?"

Amira turned from me, walking back inside, "She is not to take that necklace off, understood?"

Why does it seem like all Yakuza children are intolerably argumentative? "Yes, Amira-san."

"You did WHAT!?"

"Would you just calm—"

"Calm down!?" She yelled, "You expect me to calm down after you tell me that my father told you about my Certains and you just happen to walk by and stumble on me getting messed up by my apparent betrothed, who you spared when you could've at least kicked him in the—"

"Akira, I am aware of the importance of betrothals among families as powerful as yours, so forgive me" I sarcastically say, "if killing the man you're going to be married to slipped my mind."

It didn't, really.

She paused for a moment, just watching me, before rolling her eyes and stomping away. I stood from the log I was sitting on and felt the side of my lips twitch, "That's a dead end!" I called out to her.

When she turned her head again to face me, I pointed to the direction opposite to where she was going, "This is the way to Karei City."

Thanks to Amira-san's healing abilities, Akira was able to recover on her own and walk again, though her upper body is still undergoing the tedious process. I deduced that she possesses a regeneration power of some kind; one that she could direct to various points in her body to accelerate healing. I've also given Akira the necklace and she seemed to understand it, so I didn't concern myself with their issue any further.

"What are we doing here?" Her voice cut through my thoughts as I realized we've already arrived.

I didn't answer, admittedly because I didn't know. After I put on my disguise, we walked around aimlessly. The first few moments of it was boring and lifeless. Neither one of us gave interest towards anything the stores offer. There was this one seller who specialized in all kinds of love-related nonsense. I was on the verge of killing her if Akira hadn't stopped me by grabbing my arm.

"I don't need that anyway." I heard her mutter, once she let me go. I gave her a look, and after a few moments, she met my eyes, "You know about me being a Siren, right?"

"Yes." I didn't know what urged me to ask such a serious question, but I already voiced it before I had a chance to stop myself, "Do you think you can find your Certain?"

"I sure hope you're not among them."
