"There you are!" Akira turned back behind her to see Ace make his way to the balcony, but by the time she turned back to look for the girl, she was gone.

"What is it? We should probably get inside, they're cutting the cake."

"Let them cut it." She replied back once she found her voice, "They could manage without me."

Ace grew silent for a few moments, before he nodded it off respectfully, "If you say so. But I really am confused."

"About what?" she glanced to the side, and he frowned, "You behave differently around family, is all I'm saying." The Siren then walked to put her elbows on the balcony railing and her Certain followed, both of them now being illuminated by the moonlight, "I guess, as my Certain you deserve to know."

"If you don't want to tell me, don't feel obligated." He quickly put in, "I don't want you to feel disloyal to anyone."

"I'm not breaking any rules that I know of, I assure you." She laughed, looking back in front of her before sighing. "I just feel bad about being the youngest kid at times."

"Why? Being the youngest child of a family as rich as yours will be something I'll do almost anything for." he sat on the railing, back to the view as his chestnut hair blows against the chilly breeze that night.

"You're my Certain, you technically are already part of the family." She stated with a light chuckle, and a sign of a slight blush was on Ace's cheeks as he frowned, looking away, "Yeah, I guess..."

"...Ace?"

"Yep?"

"Why aren't you questioning anything?"his eyebrows furrowed at this, but Akira remained focused on her question and the answer she wanted. Ace took a deep breath, "Well... I like being puzzled. The Yakuza family looks like a very interesting and intimidating one at the same time, and given that, you know, you're my Siren, it just makes everything more challenging. Why'd you ask?"

"Well, my first Certain, Midori, always had questions at the ready for me. His curiosity was the best and worst trait he had at 14," she gulped, feeling the unease crawl up her spine and stomach, "Sometimes it got annoying, and in the end when it wasn't, it meant something else."

"How many Certains do you have?"

Her face lowered, and she lowly answered."Three. That doesn't mean I'm stopping myself from warming up to you, though." I'm actually counting on it... she thought inside.

"I'm glad, then." He smiled lovingly, blue eyes shining just as with much emotion and Akira made the mistake of looking at them. Ace's eyes were differently gorgeous since at times it looked like the sea under the afternoon sunlight, and if not had the color of two beautiful aquamarines reflected in them. She didn't see Ace at his angriest yet, and at this point she hope she won't. He was too cheerful, too giddy, too childish, and so much of a cinnamon roll to be angry. Those were the kind of eyes that were reserved and composed when they know they need to be, because Akira had noticed it; they only shine that much whenever he would look at her.

"You're not scared?" she asked again, almost mockingly. Ace shrugged, "Don't get me wrong, I'm terrified. But we can't do anything about the bond. I'm happy when you're happy, and if it isn't with me, then who am I to say anything?" he hummed, "If or when that happens, there won't be any awkwardness between us right?"

"Zero awkwardness." She smiled, and his tense shoulders slackened with a relieved sigh, "Good, I don't want to get on your bad side."

Clapping was heard from inside and one of the many maids in the household beckoned the two of them to join in. Holding her by the small of her back, Ace guided Akira inside in time for Illumi to step out, a more darkened look in his unusually frowning face.

"Why, because of my Nen type?" she muttered lowly, and Ace whispered his reply. "No. You're scary as hell." both of them giggled, and then Hiro stood in the stage. After his closing speech and thanks, everyone was allowed to leave and or stay for more fun, and a bittersweet feeling took over the hearts of the two.

"I guess I'll see you around." Ace smiled slightly, and Akira gulped down her hesitance as she nodded, "Keep in touch, you."

"Of course." He laughed, and then through awkwardly, engulfed Akira in a heartfelt hug that she too had reflected. It was the least he deserved. She waved until he was no longer in sight, and just then, a black something entered her peripheral vision. Lifting her head to the direction of it, she followed, and they ended up in the clearing where she saw the girl from the balcony up there. A fountain was also in this garden, and the moonlight was hiding and peeking out from the clouds once again.

"Illumi."

The figure stopped, and regained a stationary posture with his back still to her. It was never a good time to continue deliberating every single thing she decided on, and this wasn't supposed to be one of them.

"Were you told to cut contact with me?"

Just the slightest bit, Illumi's head dipped, heart beating faster with nervousness.

"Answer me."

"Yes." He glared back at her, a sharp look in his eyes representing pure and utter disdain of what could be the highest level, "I knew from the beginning that you were corrupting me, Yakuza. I was logical enough to know that you were my responsibility after I've saved you and your pathetic life, only to regret it since it brought forth my evident conflict as a Zoldyck. You were a burden, and a whiny girl whom I can't stand another day to be around. He does, as you seemed to react more fondly of him. Let's face it; we never were compatible as colleagues or otherwise. You and I should go back to working alone, since we're just bothering one another."

Without another word, he left.

Within her hair and the curtain of the clouds, Akira's face was downcast and sullen. That was when Akane walked around the bend and saw her. The concerned mother then rushed over to her child and took her in without a demand for an explanation, but Akira was too occupied in sobbing that she hadn't realized she wasn't being brought to her room.
