Your best friend is the one whom you search in your contact list in your happiest and saddest moment. - Prfctrose

When they reached the college, the celebration started with a cake being punched on her face (it was like a tradition after all)  and singing the awesome birthday song. Well they had their own different version of birthday song, something like this........

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU

YOU ARE BORN IN THE ZOO

WHERE DONKEYS AND MONKEYS LIKE YOU;)

Undoubtedly, they had another cake to eat.

Both Dharam & Kavya had their own popularity. Boys yearned for Kavya and girls envied her. Her long brown hair, those cute honey brown eyes, a modelling figure and a breath taking smile would grab anyone's voice. She always carried herself perfectly. On the other hand Dharam was like a walking Greek God. Those mesmerizing blue eyes had a kryptonite effect on women. Those toned muscles and abs were what every girl would dream about.

They both had too many people drooling over them but they were least bothered about any of them. Because they had their own bunch of idiots to bother about. Sikhar Avasthi was the idiot that Kavya cared about the most. For her, he was like a friend she would never even think to loose. And Dharam had the famous Miss Anchal Modi as a very close friend.

After embarrassing Kavya enough they finally left college. Dharam had organised a party at his farmhouse where they had had many memories of childhood. It was limited to their mutual friends. Which included Anchal, Kaira, Naina, Sikhar, Lakshya and Shishir. They all would usually hang out together. They spent the whole day together, watching movies, danced like idiots and ordering Kavya's favorite pizza. Kavya was happy. But still there was a very exciting surprise waiting for her.

At around 7:30 everyone was leaving. When Kavya was going with Naina, Dharam texted her that she was supposed to hold back for cleaning since the maids were on leave. Kavya was angry but understood that Dharam alone had to clean the house and as a proud man he would not ask any one else for help. She stayed back giving some lame reason to Naina.

When she was about to pick up the plates Dharam chuckled and told her that cleaning can be done later. And took her to the terrace which was their favorite place in childhood. They spent time under the starry sky talking about anything and everything. It was near about 8:30 when she told him that she had to go home so it would be better if they started cleaning.

Dharam :- (smiling) Stop worrying about it. The maids will get it cleaned.

Kavya :- (confused) What? You said that they were on leave.

Dharam :- (chuckling) Well, I lied to you.....

Kavya :- Lied! But why.

She was getting confused.

Dharam :- Well............... For this. He says pointing towards the sky.

Kavya looks up. She was truly surprised. This was something she would love but had not really experienced. She was awestruck. The whole sky was lit up with paper lanterns. The whole sky looked beautiful. When she was busy watching the laudable view he whispered in her ear "happy birthday best friend" . She was too overwhelmed to say anything she just smiled and held back his hand tight. He let his hand go free from her and gave her a small box. She wasn't expecting it. He asked her to open the box. It was a chain in which the pendent had the word "forever" encrypted on it. He said " You are my best friend and the chain says that you will be forever." Happy is a small word to describe her feelings for that moment. She immediately put the chain on. And she knew that she will wear it forever. They stayed there sometime watching the lanterns fly by and go down. When they got down the whole courtyard till the parking was lit up with the paper lanterns. She was speechless with the view and all the surprises, but still managed to say thank you and hugged him. She would remember this for her entire lifetime. It may seem simple but for Kavya it was the most precious gift ever. It means he has not only heard her blabbering her love for paper lanterns but also remembered it. She felt the luckiest one to have a best friend like Dharam.

The whole drive to home she thanked him heartily. He in return told her that it was nothing but he was glad she liked it. When she reached home she told Devyani about the surprise and how beautiful the sky looked. Just before going to sleep she texted him " I LOVED THE SURPRISE. THANKKK YOUUU SOOOO MUUUUUCH MR. HANDSOME." Within in seconds he replied "Anytime Pretty Girl." Then there was another text from him. " Good night, happy birthday once again, cya at college." She replied "Good night, thanks, cya." And then drifted to sleep with a big smile plastered on her face.
