Chapter Forty-One- Parent Meetings and Walkouts

"It's the closest thing I get to being with you." Mr. Madrid added.

My heart fluttered hearing him say those words. The idea of someone oogling with my photo would've sounded creepy if it wasn't him, the man I'm still madly in love with. I hated to admit it but I hate lying to myself more. I can't deny the fact he still possessed my heart.

"It's good to know I can still make you blush." he noticed my cheeks turning crimson.

It scared me that he can still affect me that much. He still had the power over my emotions. He still my feelings wrapped around his fingers. Everything was too familiar. I have felt these things before. Am I ready go down that hole again?

"Why did you bring me here?"

"I wanna make things right starting with you meeting my parents. I have kept you to myself before and it was my mistake."

I didn't understand him. Honestly, I thought it was a mistake on my part that I didn't exert any effort to get to know him better. I was contented on what he chose to tell and show me and on what I feel for him.

Maybe I should make things right too.

"Are you sure?" I asked suddenly feeling nervous about meeting his folks. "We're not together. You're supposed to be engaged to someone else. I'm not ready." Ready for what? I sounded like a wreck.

"Hey," he said softly. "Don't worry. I could introduce you to them as a friend if you want."

"We were never friends. Lying doesn't make it right."

"Good point. You can tell them whatever you want to tell them. Here they come."

Wait. What?

Mr. Madrid rose from his seat and acknowledged his parents were behind me. "Mom, Dad." I heard a faint sound of a kiss. "I'd like you to meet someone." I swallowed hard before mirroring him. "This is Madeleine Daniel."

I faced a couple in their fifties with warm eyes and genuine smiles. "Good-," Shit. What time is it?

"Afternoon." Mr. Madrid whispered to me.

"Good afternoon, Atty. Madrid and Mrs. Madrid."

"Oh! No need to be so formal. Call me Vera. Nice to meet you, dear. You are one beautiful young woman." she opened her arms for a hug.

Vera was just my height. She had a chestnut bob that complimented her green eyes. She wore a bright sun dress and pleaseantly smelled of fresh flowers and strawberries.

"Thanks." I blushed at the compliment.

"Nice to meet you, Madeleine. I'm Frank." Atty. Madrid held out his hand. The Madrid siblings got their hazel eyes and towering height from their father. Now I know how Mr. Madrid would look like twenty years from now. Still damn gorgeous. Frank had the same posture as Mr. Madrid only with greyish white hair.

"Please call me, Madi. I'm sorry for coming here uninvited."

"Oh darling, that's nonsense! We should be thanking you. I'm guessing you're the reason our son came home. He hasn't been home in a long time."

What does that mean?

"Mom."

"Alright now. Come, I have everyone and coffee inside."

I was about to follow Vera and Frank who sweetly tangled their arms together when Mr. Madrid stopped me.

"What?" I asked with an arched brow. I was still tensed that I just met his parents. Never have I imagined this moment even when we were together.
