Chapter Forty-Seven- Boyfriends

"Ohmygod! I-it's M-Michael Madrid! Ohmygod! Does my hair look okay?" Jenny squeaked in excitement as she checked her face on her phone. Then, without a warning she just ran off heading to the restroom. Okay, she officially creeps me out.

I squinted my eyes at Michael when our gazes met. I thought he didn't want to be here. He gave me a subtle gesture to follow him back inside the house. I waited for a minute before I excused myself.

As I reached the living room, a hand pulled me inside one of the rooms. Michael swiftly closed and locked the door behind us. "What are you doing?" I asked giggling after he kissed me.

"I thought you needed me but you seem okay."

"Surprisingly, I'm still alive."

"You better be. We still have forever to go." he said and I tried not to cringe. "What? Too cheesy?"

I cupped his cheeks and locked my eyes with his. There was something in the way that he looked at me. I can see right through his hazel browns the exhaustion he tries to hide from me. He was going through so much with the possibility of Lumiere being taken away from him. It was hard to understand how can he lose all his hard work because of a stupid deal. I want to help him. After all, I got in the way of his well-orchestrated plans. I don't blame myself, of course but I want to do something to help him keep Lumiere. He always tell me he just needs me to be by his side but I know I can do more. I want to do more. I wish I knew how.

"Madi?" Peter's voice startled us. Luckily, we were already out. "Is everything alright? I've been looking for you?"

"Um, Peter this is Michael. Michael this is Peter, my father."

"Good afternoon, Mr. Thomas. It's a pleasure to meet you." Michael offered a hand. In a second he switched from cheesy boyfriend to formal businessman.

"Michael? Michael Madrid of Lumiere Corporation." Peter recognized him as they shook hands.

"How do you know him?" I asked.

It was a stupid question. Michael was a well-known business mogul. Then there's his photos all over the television these days. Thanks to that ogre, Cassandra Mortel. She hasn't stopped sharing her wedding preparations to the whole nation. She was one crazy bitch. Once I see her again, I won't back down.

"I used to attend Lumiere's ecological conferences. I remember you giving a speech about sustainable development involving your shopping malls." Peter explained. Before Michael and I could say anything else he invited us to go the living room. He asked someone to bring coffee. I was weighing what to feel about the current situation we were in. "How do you two know each other?"

I was about to respond when Michael took my hand and clasped it with his. Peter tried his best to hide his shock.

"Sir, your daughter and I are in love."

I wanted the ground to swallow me. I know this kind of things should make a woman's heart melt or something but this wasn't the time to be cheesy. I was hoping for a more subtle way of telling my father I was dating someone. It felt weird having Michael blurting it out like that.

Surprisingly, Peter didn't say anything against Michael. Maybe he had no idea about Michael being engaged. I was just overthinking and assuming things. They were both polite talking about business and me as if I wasn't there.
