The Notebook- Chapter 43
Sophia’s POV
“I don’t know where my phone is.” I say as I look through my bag.
“It probably fell when I was picking up your things, I’m sorry.”
“It’s ok, it’s not like I had anyone calling me anyway.” I say sulkily.
“I’m sure you did.” he opposes.
“Yea, I had Jay but I pushed him away and now…I fee like shit.” I admit.
“Hey, you have me now.” he smiles and I can’t help but crack one too. “He isn’t answering.”
“Why does it always happen like that?” I yell exasperated. “Whenever we really need to talk to someone, they never answer.” I start feeling pain in my abdominal area, “Ow shit.”
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing, it’s just hurting a little.” I clutch my shirt and rest my hand on my stomach.
“Lie down.” I do as he says. “Soph, you need to think about your baby now.” he scolds.
“I know, I’m sorry, I- I don’t want anything to happen to Danielle, that’s all.”
His phone starts ringing, “It’s Liam.” he gets up and they start talking. I can’t really make out all that they’re saying but he walks back a few minutes later.
“What did he say? How is he?”
“Distraught. But he’s on his way, he was with Zayn though.”
My heart drops to my stomach, “Do you know if Zayn is coming?”
“I told him to not bring him, that we’ll explain it when he gets here and he agreed, took some convincing but he said yes.”
“Good.”
“Sophia, you know you can’t ignore him forever, he will go out looking for you even if he has to search under every last rock that earth has.”
“He’ll get tired, then he’ll finally realize that I’m not worth it.” I look out the door and see Liam passing by, “Liam!” we run out and he looks behind. We usher him into the room.
“Where is she? How is she?” he asks when we’re all together.
“She’s doing better, she’s resting right now and isn’t allowed any visitors.” Josh tells him.
Liam eyes me and I divert my gaze from his burning one. “Mate, can I have a word with Soph please.”
I look at Josh pleading that he doesn’t but he nods and leaves, leaving us alone. “Hi Liam.”
“What is wrong with you? Do you know what your actions do? The domino affect they have on all of us?” he seethes.
“I’m sorry-”
“Why do you do this to him? Why is it that you give him hope and then rip it away from him?” he grabs my arms roughly, “Why do you like to hurt him? Does it give you some sort of pleasure to see him suffer? Does it make you feel better?”
“Liam, I know you’re hurting but that’s no reason for you to-”
“Lets not talk about reason, because you obviously lack that.”
“Liam, I don’t have to give you any explanation! I don’t have anyone anymore, my family is gone, they were taken from me!” I struggle to free myself.
“You have Zayn! You have all of us, we were here for you but you chose to abandon us!” he shouts.
“Because I don’t want to be around any of you! I just want to leave and…I want to leave.”
“Why? After all you’ve been through with Zayn! Why would you do this to him? Do you have any idea how much he is suffering right now?”
“I can assure you he’s not suffering more than me.” I say in a childlike voice.
Liam shakes me gently, “If you’re suffering so much why do you do this?”
I can’t tell him, I can’t tell anyone. “Because…Perrie and the baby, they need him.”
He lets go of me, his anger multiplying tenfold, “Argh! Why do you always fall for her pity story! Why can’t you ever think about Zayn and yourself?”
“I do! That’s why I’m leaving! Look how much I’ve already affected all of you! I don’t want to keep doing this, it’s too much.”
“So you’re going to leave and let us pick up these broken pieces, pieces that we’ll never be able to put back together.” he asks in a menacing voice.
“I’m sorry.”
“So am I. I’m sorry that you’re such a coward, that you’re so weak and-”
“She’s pregnant.”
I stay frozen as Liam turns around to look at Josh, “What?”
“She’s pregnant, you two shouldn’t be arguing.” he comes and stands next to Liam and me.
“Josh…” I say barely above a whisper.
“You’re pregnant?”
I look at Liam, “That’s none of your business.”
He looks surprised, then that turns to rage, “And knowing this you still would have left him? Then all that Perrie and the baby was all bullshit?! Because you are depriving this baby of his father too! You wouldn’t want Perrie’s baby to grow up without a father but you’re willing to put your own baby through that?!”
“Liam, calm down. Arguing and fighting is going to get us nowhere, it doesn’t make this situation any better.” Josh says trying to reason with Liam but to no avail.
“No! Zayn needs to know about this.”
I stand in front of Liam, “Please don’t. He can’t know, it’ll…this will destroy him.”
“Why?”
“Because,” I look at both of them and I know that Liam would tell Zayn and I can’t be with Zayn anymore, not after knowing what he did, “Because this baby isn’t Zayn’s.”
Liam scoffs, “Yea, who’s is it then?”
“It’s Jay’s.”
