Chapter 3 || Who doesn't like Cake

🔹🔹🔹🔹

* * Nicole's POV * *

I smiled with pleasure as I finished putting the final letters on the cake with icing.

I really hope Jake likes cake. I don't want to get off to the wrong start with him. Hopefully, we can be friends, but he seems to already hate my guts and I'm deathly afraid of him so that thought may not work. I'm sure I can change that though, maybe he will realize I didn't mean to.... wait what did I actually do to him? I sighed, it doesn't matter, all that matters is that Jake accepts the cake.

I dragged myself out of that thought as Jake passed through the kitchen, heading to the living room I assume. I hesitate and awkwardly smile. Do I actually want to do this? I don't think I have enough courage to even speak to him let alone give him an apology cake, which never in my life did I think I would do... I sighed but I have to do this or he may hate me forever, increasing my death factor.

I softly mumbled, but just loud enough so he could hear me, "uh- Jake?"

He snapped his head over toward me and narrowed his eyes.

I picked up the cake and headed his direction, "I'm sorry for earlier. I feel really bad so I made you this cake." I handed him the vanilla cake that said 'sorry' in red frosting, "I hope you can forgive me" I added while putting a sincere but shaky smile on my face trying to hide my fear.

Jake leaned over the cake and raised an eyebrow. I noticed the corner of his mouth tilt up but it went away as soon as it came. He reached out and carefully took the cake from my hands.

I smiled wider as he accepted the cake.

He lifted one of his hands and smashed it directly into the center of the cake.

My smile disappeared as he destroyed the cake, smashing every piece of it in the tray.

He grinned as he finished destroying the last of my cake.

He handed me the tray of smashed cake and said nothing, he just turned away with his sly grin and continued walking into the living room.

I headed back to the kitchen counter. I wasn't angry with him, I was upset. I really wanted him to forgive me, not sure why but something inside me told me I had to make it up to him. Also, I planned on living until I'm at least 80 so that may be why I had the urge to make the cake. Not only that but who doesn't love cake?

I smiled once again, feeling that this time I will have to be less scared. I grabbed the second tray of cake I made and walked over to Jake who was sitting on the couch, tapping his fingers to the beat of the music coming from the commercial on TV.

I walked around the couch and sat next to Jake who looked like he was about to punch me.

"I wanted to give you this," I said as I held out a second cake that read 'I had a feeling you would destroy the first cake in some way so I made a second cake. I am really sorry'.

I know this was a little much but I had to get my point across. He lifted his hands up and I quickly put my head down and immediately added, "Please don't kill me."

Expecting to hear the sound of cake being squished and skin being slapped I actually heard a laugh escape from Jake, "Okay I have to admit. That was f***ing funny." He took the cake from my hands, "You knew I would destroy the first cake!" He continued laughing.

I awkwardly smiled and let out a small little laugh. Was he accepting it?

He stood up and made his way into the kitchen and I followed in his footsteps. He rested the cake on the counter, opened the drawer and pulled out a knife.
