60) We Get To Ditch Class For The Woods Part 2

There are only a few times in my life that I remember being at a loss for words. I usually always know exactly what to say but there are always those rare times where I've wanted to desperately say something but nothing would come out of my mouth.

This was one of those moments.

I am silent for so long that she speaks up again. "I know you are probably shocked" the girl who is apparently Selena says through the phone and that finally snaps me out of my shocked silence.

"How did you get this number?" I ask blatantly. 

"Ryder gave it to me" she says back.

"It really is you" I breathe out. "Wait, Ryder gave you my number? Does that mean.."

"Yeah, I came back home to visit him. I mean, if Luke could finally find the courage to talk to me face to face I should be able to gather the courage to face my brother" she speaks.

"Wait, I'm sorry I'm not exactly up to speed, Luke visited you?" I ask, my brain feeling as if there were hundreds of things in my head swimming around and I am struggling to think straight.

"Oh, I thought he would have told you. Luke came up to my boarding school to finally talk to me for the first time since my freshman year. He apologized for what he did and I thought I would never see Luke apologize for anything" her soft voice speaks.

"He actually went to visit you? He actually apologized?" I ask, feeling completely thrown off. Luke was not somebody that regularly admitted his mistakes and apologized for them. The fact that he admitted that what he did was wrong to Selena's face made my heart feel slightly warmer in my chest.

"Yes, I was just as surprised as you sound" she says back.

My brows knit together. "Wait, so how do you know about me?" I ask her, seeing as I didn't fit into the equation yet.

"Well I could tell that he wasn't the same boy he was when he slept with me to win a football game. That boy would have never showed his face to me again, much less apologize for what he did. I knew something had to have made him change and I asked him and your named slipped out of his mouth so when I came home to visit Ryder I asked him about you. He told me that you two were actually friends and gave me your number".

I am silent, not knowing what words I could possibly form to express the thoughts in my head. Luke talked to Selena about me. Selena had asked what changed him and somehow my name was part of his answer. Luke believes that I changed him.

Selena continues talking. "So I just wanted to tell you in case he didn't and tell you thank you".

"For what" I ask in shock. I've done nothing to deserve this girl's praise.

"Because" she speaks. "If you hadn't changed him he would still be the same asshole he was when I left town. He actually has been one of my biggest questions. What is he like now? Is he the same? Is he doing what he did to me on other girls as well? I don't know why but it is a really big relief that he isn't the same. That he has changed and I just wanted to thank you for changing him for the better".

"Honestly, I didn't do anything" I admit to her.

I hear her laugh through the phone. "Well do you love him?".

Her question really throws me off and as my mouth starts to form the word 'no' my mind suddenly races through the best memories I had with Luke. How throughout these 2 years he has changed before my very eyes. How he has become more kind and caring and more studious and has been able to express his feelings freely.

"Yeah, yeah I do" I find myself admitting and as the words pass my lips, I feel my mouth curl into a soft smile at the memory of him laughing while looking at me, his eyes lit up in something powerful.
