Damon's POV
The moment both planes had landed in a forest ten miles away from the castle, we wasted no time shifting and running. There was a shared goal, a shared urgency in all of the wolves. They needed their Luna back, and I needed my mate back.
We ran as fast as we ever had.
But as we approached the territory surrounding the castle, we slowed, gathered to one large pack, with Will, Alec, and I in front. I sent a link to all of them, telling them to halt as we reassessed.
Two hundred yards in front of us were two guards, hunters carrying knives and pistols at their sides, watching for any intruders. Watching for us.
How many more do you think there are? Alec linked to me, using the link we had from the temporary pack bond.
I raised my snout in the air, sniffing for the number of scents, and closed my eyes, so that my hearing was as heightened as possible. After a second, I opened my eyes and lowered my nose.
At least twenty surrounding the territory, but many more inside. There's too many scents to tell. But even here, one very hidden scent stood out to me. Sugar and flowers, her intoxicating scent swirled in the air.
My eyes turned red with rage, and in an instant I was sprinting at the guards. The other wolves quickly followed, and I had both the guards dead when we sprinted into the field that surrounded the castle.
The wolves wasted no time running around the perimeter, and taking out the startled guards. But soon, the remaining hunters had their weapons drawn, and a battle commenced.
Hunters upon hunters ran out of the castle doors, outnumbering us by many. But we were fighting for something, not against something, and we had more determination.
For forty wolves, we were clearly outnumbered by at least five times our size. Will, Alec, and I rushed to the front of the battle, edging towards the door with every fallen Hunter.
I had let my wolf take control, and together we slashed, snapped, and tore at every enemy that tried to stop us. We didn't even have a cut on us when the second wave of hunters showed up. As the door closed, I saw more hunters waiting inside.
One raised his gun at me, but in an instant my jaw was wrapped around his upper arm and with a shake of the head, I ripped off a chunk of flesh. He screamed in agony, but fired the gun. I ducked, and then slashed my claw at his gut, cutting a nice deep gash. He hunched over, and I then used this as an excuse to bite into his neck, my teeth slicing through his jugular. The taste of blood filled my mouth.
Hunter after Hunter, any who tried to harm me were slaughtered in seconds. My wolf had been so blood thirsty for Hunter blood the minute Emerald had been taken, and he was finally getting his chance to sate his thirst.
As I continued to take down more enemies, a hunter approached me from the side, trying to slash his silver blade into my fur. I growled, turning to face him, and assessed his weaknesses as he swiped his blade some more. Just when his arm extended, trying to get the knife into me, I jumped to the side and bit his wrist, and blood spurted out uncontrollably. I had gotten his vein.
He brought the hand to his chest and switched he knife into his left hand, and continued swiping at me, but it was useless. I jumped at him, pushing him onto the ground, and my teeth were tearing his flesh apart.
