—————————————————(Tyler's POV)
I fastened my walk, stopping in front of the restaurant where I and Craig should have met. I knew I was late, but that wasn't directly my fault. My alarm clock wouldn't have woken me up.I saw him sitting inside, nervously looking at his phone. I mentally prepared myself for his words about Evan. I walked in with a smile and sat against him.
"Hi," I greeted him.
He raised his sight and looked at me. I knew he was worried about something, and I had my suspicions about what.
"Hi," he replied, shy smile slowly forming on his face.
"I'm so sorry I'm late. I had so much work that I went to sleep around 10 this morning," I started to apologize.
"It's ok," he replied.
I could see that something was really bothering him. He was so readable. The emotions were shouting from his eyes, his fingers, which he twirled, his body language.
"What's going on?" I asked straight.
"Huh? Oh nothing," he mumbled, returning his eyes to his phone.
I stretched my hand, putting it on his in a calm matter.
"Tell me, please," I demanded.
He looked at our hands for a few seconds, then at me.
"You think we could do one stop on the way home? My friend, Evan, isn't answering me the whole day. I just want to make sure that he's ok."
I knew it!
"Sure. But I thought he was living with his roommate, David? If something happened, he would have let you know, wouldn't he?"
And I assumed that agent already called Craig about Evan's missing. Weird.
"I guess... but I have to be sure. Just a quick stop." And at that moment waitress came.
The whole date at the dinner was silenter then ever. I knew he was still thinking about his best friend, his eyes checking his phone, lost in our conversation.
After the dinner, we went to the agent's house. I escorted him to the door, where he knocked. Agent took his time, before opening the door.
"Hi there. Can I talk with Evan?" Craig asked directly.
David scanned me first, then Craig, nodding silently his head. We both walked in, heading to the room where Evan was sleeping, but he was nowhere to be seen.
"Where's Evan?" Craig asked, and I looked at the agent.
"Sit down, please," he replied, and Craig did what he was asked for.
Now I'm really interested what you're going to say to him. That Delirious fucked you up? That you let Evan get kidnaped?
"Can I talk with you in private?" David asked, pointing at me.
"I don't have any secrets before him. Just tell me where Evan is!" Craig raised his voice, making me better about myself that he trusted me that much.
"He has been kidnaped."
There was a few minutes silence, before Craig spoke again.
"W-what? Kidnaped?" He repeated slowly, looking at the agent.
"I'm really sorry. I know I was here to protect him, but he distracted me. I had been out for like twenty minutes, and when I returned he was gone."
"Distracted? You were fucking distracted? Your only job was to protect him! What could have distracted you?"
I was feeling bit awkward, standing there, listening to something I already knew about, and at the same time I felt great because our plan was working perfectly. I finally felt useful, being the one who's in the middle of something. All the past time I just arranged the meetings for Delirious, checking their backgrounds, collecting the money, and that was it.
"I said I was sorry," David replied, his voice slightly angry.
"Sorry? You knew who are you dealing with! Some fucking weirdo was coming after my best friend, and you knew it!"
He don't know that it was Delirious? Evan didn't tell him? Or maybe those agents didn't tell Evan.
"Best friend? I thought he was your lover," David said confused.
I knew I should step in, as a new partner of Craig.
"What? You're dating Evan?" I asked, faking my anger.
He looked at me, and I saw his tears. He looked really devastated.
"Not now, please. I'll explain everything to you, but not now. I'm going to police."
As he stood up I tensed up. I remembered what Delirious told me.
Hold him back from screaming for help.
"No!" At the same time, as I said it, agent said the same thing.
We exchanged our looks. I was so confused.
Why doesn't he want Craig to go for help? Is he hiding something?
"Fuck you! Both of you!" Craig whispered, walking towards the door.
I caught him by his hand, pulling him to my body, hugging him. He tried to get out of it, but after a few seconds he hugged me back, fully crying into my chest.
"L-let me go! I need to help him... he... he needs help. That psycho is going to k-kill him," he sobbed.
That psycho is my friend.
"Shhhh, it's gonna be ok," I soothed him, even though I didn't really care about him.
He pulled away from me, wiping off his tears, still being near me.
"His phone! He has a search thingy in his phone!"
My heart stopped beating for a few seconds. I started to connect some links.
It makes sense! That's how they fucking found Delirious at the working site for the first time. Oh fuck! I need to warn him, as soon as possible.
"You mean this phone?" Agent raised the phone, which was laying on the bed.
I tried to so hard not to smile, feeling better all of the sudden. We all went silent for a few minutes.
"I'm sorry, Craig." I looked at David.
I really didn't know what to thing about him. He seemed to be the good guy, when he was protecting Evan from Delirious, but I didn't understand why he didn't want Craig to go for help.
"S-sorry? Shove your sorry into your asshole! I can't understand how you could let him got kidnaped."
"I know. God dammit, I fucking know! I'm working on something."
"I'm going to take you to my place," I stated.
"I-I don't want to," he answered, tightening the hug around me.
"But you need to. And that was no question, that was an order."
And I have to keep you there for a time needed. I just hope Delirious is going to be quick, I don't want to have this burden for long.
