A/N: Please read the author's note at the end of the chapter :)

The trip through town was quiet and miserable. Birger and the townspeople wouldn't bother to speak. Entering the village without the Jarl was an answer to their lingering question. I felt as if I could scream if I wasn't restraining myself by digging my nails into my skin. My face felt as if it were made from impenetrable stone, heavy and blank. Unfeeling.

When we finally reached home Birger and I were in silence. It wasn't until the next morning that he bothered to speak to me. "Please do not think badly of me for what I have been saying" He said. I shook my head. "I do not think badly of you. We all handle grief in our own ways."

"Thank you" he said, his frame growing smaller as if he had just released a great breath. "But I want you to know, Lagertha, that you must understand-"

"I understand, Birger! I do! Are we not friends? Are we not warriors who fought and fight side by side in battle? Why do you think so low of me?"

"Lagertha" he sighed. "I think you fail to see the obvious. You are nothing but an order from Augun and I am nothing but your guard. Get used to it"

A/N: Hallo! So, I know that I took FOREVER to update. I'm really sorry, but I've been going through a lot, and I've also been trying to decide where to go with this book. I have decided that this book will undergo extreme editing. Lagertha'a name will change, the plot MAY have a few small changes, the chapters will be smashed together in a series of 2,000 words, and I believe that will mean that there will be only one book in this series so far. I am also going to improve the chapters when I edit them (because I've progressed a lot in my writing skill this year) and all chapters will be 2,000 words from now on. I would recommend rereading them. Editing will start soon. Thank you for your patience. XXX
