Chapter 17: Mermaid's Lagoon Miracle

KAT'S POV:

(Before Peter found her)

Scratching and biting and choking.

I beg for death to come with every morsel of my being.

It would be a much kinder fate than this.

Maybe I can use the little magic I have left to kill myself before my body parts are torn off.

I've stopped screaming because I ran out of air.

Things are becoming blurry and I'm thankful that this is almost over.

But then, I hear a loud splash in the water.

Someone just jumped in.

With my eyes closed now, I feel the mermaids swim away, and strong arms around my waist.

They pull me to the surface and my lungs gulp the air quickly.

There are still arms around me as I tread in the water and try to breathe steadily.

I can't see who's behind me but I hear a voice say

"Swim over there, to that rock!"

We are no where near the place I fell in so this rock is our only hope of safety.

"What about the mermaids? " I frantically ask.

"They won't be gone for long so we have to hurry!"

I swim over to the rock as fast as I can and climb on top.

I hear the person behind me do the same.

Sprawled over the side and spitting up water, I hear the other person panting.

After some time of me coughing and regaining my senses, I turned around to say thankyou to my rescuer.

But as I'm about to speak I almost choke again.

"JAMES?"

"Hello Kat"

It's impossible.

Not again.

He died once, though he never really died

But this time he died.

Like actually died.

And I watched it happen.

"This isn't real," I said, "I'm dreaming. Or I'm dead. This can't be real"

He smiles at me through his kind eyes,

"This is real, Kat. I'm here. I'm alive."

Still shaking, I run over to him and throw myself into his arms.

He tightly holds me back and we just sit there for a few minutes.

"How?" I finally say as I pull away.

"You." He says.

"Me?"

"Yes, you. Your magic! It saved me!"

"But I didn't use magic on you?" I asked, confused.

"You didn't need to preform a spell, Kat. It's in your blood. In your tears.

When you cried on me, your tears contained enough magic to bring me back. You're powerful, Kat. More powerful than any other being in any realm."

Immediately I thought of the flower back in the tree tops.
