Mom makes me stay in the waiting room when she goes in for chemo, she says she doesn't want me to see her like that. I never want to stay in the waiting room, but she won't budge on her decision. I walk up to the receptionist, "Do you know if the patient Lourine Singer is back in her room yet?" I ask. She had short red hair and brown eyes.
"Um, I don't know, give me a second." I sit back down and she calls me over a second later. "Yes, she is. Are you Vie her daughter?" she asks me.
"Yes, I am, why?"
"She just says so many good things about you. Is Vie short for anything?" she asked in her peppy voice.
"No it's French, it means life."
"That is so pretty, I'm Sasha." she said smiling. "Oh, you can go right in." she said sitting back down at he desk. I walked around her and to my mother's room. I opened the door and held in a gasp when I saw how tired she looked. The doctor stood next to her bed talking in hushed tones.
"Mom, I told you I want to know what is going on," I said quietly after they stopped talking.
"I know you do, but is it wise to know?" she asked me. I didn't want to know, but I needed to. I nodded my head, trying to keep my face void of all emotions. She sighed and nodded.
The doctor cleared his throat and spoke, "I don't know how your mother has, but it's not long." he said sadly. I just stood there for a second the words not sinking in. the doctor stood there awkwardly and excused himself.
"It'll be okay," my mother said softly.
"No, it won't! How will it be okay?" I said sharply. My mom looked hurt, but at the moment the only emotion I could feel was anger. I turned and walked out of the room angrily wiping away one of my tears. I stormed out of the hospital and started walking in the direction of the bus stop. I walked a few more steps before I collapsed on the ground crying. I held my head in my hands and I sobbed. I didn't have anyone. I was all alone. I heard a car pull up next to me and my head snapped up. The sun was just starting to set so I could see who it was. Leo got out of the front seat and crouched next to me.
"Vie?" he asked trying to see if it was really me. I sighed and lifted up my head. "What's wrong?" he asked.
"Family issues." I said vaguely.
"Do you want to talk about it?" he asked softly. I shook my head and stood up.
"I'm okay." I lied.
"Vie, you collapsed outside of a hospital, how is that alright?" he said in disbelief.
"Well it's none of your business anyway." I said rudely.
"Okay, fine," he said looking a little hurt. "Do you want a ride back to your place?" he asked. I looked at my watch and saw I missed the bus. Not wanting to wait another half hour agreed. I got in the backseat and saw Jasper was driver. Thankfully George wasn't here, I wanted as little people to know about this as possible.
"Are you okay now, Vie?" Jasper asked half turning in his seat. I just nodded and he started to drive. I gave him directions to my house and he stopped in front of my neighbor's house. My house was rundown and disgusting, I didn't want them to know it was mine.
"Alright, thanks for the ride," I said getting out. I walked to my neighbor's house and walked around the back yard. I cut through their backyard into my weed infested one. In a few months the house will foreclose, but by then mom will be better and out of the hospital. I opened the door and walked into the house I went up to mom's room and sat on her bed. I laid down on the bed and looked up at the ceiling. I hummed my mom's song softly. I closed my eye and fell asleep with tears streaming down my face.
