Everything was so cold. So cold and black. I heard beeping and sobbing somewhere next to me. My brain felt fuzzy and I struggled to open my eyes. When I couldn't I tried to move any part of my body. When I couldn't I wracked my brain for anything that I could remember. My name is Vie Singer, my sister is dead, and my mother is dying. There was a car crash. I remember my father's face and someone else's. my eyes opened slowly and I blinked at the harsh light. I moved my head and groaned.
"Vie!" Someone yelled next to me. I jumped and saw it was Lizzie.
"Lizzy?"
"Oh my god, your okay! You were in a car accident, you were unconscious for two weeks-"
"My mother, is she..." I let my voice trail off.
"She's-she's still alive Vie, but she's not doing well."
"I have to see her!"
"You just woke up Vie, give yourself sometime."
"My mother might not have anytime." A nurse walked in, looking surprised.
"Your awake! How are you feeling?"
"Fine why?" I ask, the nurse looks as if she's hiding something. She smiles and shakes her head.
"I'll get the doctor." After a few seconds a doctor walks into the room.
"Vie, how are you feeling."
"I want to see my mother," I say.
"I'm afraid you won't be able to get up for awhile. Vie can you move your toes." I furrowed my brow. That was a strange question. I attempted to move my toes, but found I couldn't.
"I can't!" Tears pooled in my eyes and fell down my cheeks. "I can't move!" Kept trying to move my toes, but nothing was happening.
"Vie, you need to calm down so I can explain." I looked up at the doctor, but tears still fell down my cheeks. "In the car crash, your spinal cord was damaged. You may not be able to walk again. I'm truly sorry." He looked at me, gauging my reaction. when he realized I wasn't going to yell he gave a grim smile before exiting the room. Tears flowed down my cheeks, but I felt numb. I was vaguely aware of Lizzy"s hand on my arm, but I didn't acknowledge her. I heard two people walk in. I looked up and saw Leo and Jasper.
"Vie," Jasper said bending down so his face was level with mine. "Vie, we'll get through this, together. You'll walk again, I promise."
"I wouldn't make promises over things you can't control. " I kept my voice level and detached. "Now leave, I need rest." I stared at Jasper until he sighed and stood up.
"I'll be back tomorrow morning." I shook my head, but he stopped me. "Whether you want me to or not, you can't be alone through this." He left the room followed by Leo and Lizzie. When I was sure they were gone I let out a sob. I screamed in frustration and threw my pillow across the room. I grabbed the phone that was by my bed and threw it at the wall, enjoying the sound of it smashing. A nurse ran in and sighed when she saw what I had done.
"Goodnight Vie," she said tiredly handing me my pillow. She shut out the light on the way out of the room and I laid back on the pillow. More tears ran down my cheeks, even when I closed my eyes. I may never walk again. More tears flowed down my cheeks. I will always rely on other people. I punched my pillow and winced. I must have hurt it in the crash. I collapsed onto the bed and closed my eyes again. I realized how tired I was and I fell asleep.
