"You said the diary is your birthday gift from...."
"Grandmother. She gifted me. But how did she find the book you lost?" I continued her.
I went in a deep thought. Then finally I decided to ask Grandmother. I got up from the bed and reached for my suitcase. I saw Dutches. She was searching for something. I ignored her. I took the diary out of my suitcase.
"Come."
Dutches followed me downstairs.
"Mother was sitting on the sofa. She got up as she noticed me.
"Sally? Sally what happened dear? Tell me.. Sally? W-Wh.." I didn't answer her . I had to know what I didn't.

"Grandmother?" I called for her as I knocked.
"Come in dear." I rushed in as I heard her.
She was sitting on her rocking chair. She smiles as she saw me . She opened her arms for me . I hugged her. Then she kissed my forehead.
"Tell me. How can I help you?"
Her words echoed in my ears. How does she know that I am here to seek help? It was a weird vibe that I received from her. I tried to ignore it.

I sat in front of her.
"Grandmother, I know these are not good manners but I have to know .... Where did you find this diary from?" I handed her the diary.

She smiled at me and said,
"You are on the right way. You are destined to be The Guardian."
I didn't understand her. What The Guardian is she talking about? I looked at Dutches.

She was sitting next to me. Her eyes gleamed. I thought for a moment that she knows what Grandmother just said.

I turned back, she continued.
"You were so happy that day. Your eleventh birthday. The woods seemed to please you. You and your Dad. All of you seemed just the perfect family. I still remember that day." She then looked into my eyes and said chilling me, "But it was the worst that could have happened."

I froze.
"The reason for your father's mental illness was ThisDiary."
"What do you mean?"
"The book hit your Dad on his head. Hence he lost his memory." Grandmother said pitifully.
We were silent. I felt bad for Dad.
"Grandma... Did anyone come to find this book ? I mean did someone try to take the book from you?" Dutches asked.
Grandmother was silent for a second. Then she said,
"There was this man... what was his name.... I don't remember. He came here thrice after three days of the accident. He asked me about ThisDiary. He said it was his."
"What did you say?" I asked.
"I felt something was wrong about this man. So I said I never received such a book. "
She halted and then resumed instantly. "Jacobin.... He said his name was Jacobin."
"What kinda name is that?" I giggled, forgetting the cause of my sadness.

I looked over to Dutches. She was in a deep thought.
"What is it?" I asked her.
"I .. I think I know this name." She replied as she closed her eyes for better thinking.
After a few seconds she opened and said, " I don't remember."
I sighed in disbelief.

Now we knew the root of the diary to mean. Also the cause of Dad's illness. The next step was to find the new character in the story- Jacobin and his relation with the diary. We had no idea of where The Whisperer was . Without any clue, we couldn't do anything . So we wait...waited for him to contact us.
As far as I knew, it was me who was chosen to be THE GUARDIAN of the Book.
