Mulan's Betrothal

Forgotten Disney Characters

Did everyone know that Mulan had a Betrothal and met his family!?

The directors wanted to introduce Mulan's character, how to present it, show the world of China and what's put upon her. That's when Disney decided the Betrothal scene.

They discover that Mulan wanted to go into/ join war for all the wrong reasons. She didn't wanted to be part of this world. So, the dictators changed it to Mulan going to save her father who would have died in the battle.

In the deleted scene, we met the Le Family. The family that Mulan is marrying into.

So, as Mulan gets ready, her father discusses the marriage by a trade of farm animals...I believe that's historically accurate? I don't know how China arrange marriages goes.

Anyway, the Le mother, who doesn't have a name, is introduced and her character looks just like the Matchmaker

When the marriage is sealed, the Le family gives Mulan a necklace that will play a important roll in the sequel

Even though I like this scene, I prefer how the film ended up. I also like how they kept some  concepts from the original to the final film.

And that's our deleted characters.

Makes me wonder, how Disney will change it up in the live action version of Mulan?

Want to know what I'm hoping?

Make. Shan Yu. A. Woman.

PLOT TWIST!

Why?

Women among the Huns had higher status than their Chinese counterparts and even some of their own men. Women were free to hunt and fight along side of the men, could choose their own husbands and divorce him if she choose to. There are even records of clans being led by women leaders.

So, why can't Shan Yu be a woman in the live action version? It will be historical accurate AND show the status among women in China.

If Kaa can be female in The Jungle Book...why can't Shan Yu?
