HICCUP'S POV

Let's recall this wonderful thing called life!

I've lived a wonderful, full life.

I mean, it had its ups and downs, but I lived it to the max and I died the best way that I could – defending my family, my friends, my people and island from evil.

Shall we start right from the beginning?

Not the beginning of MY story, but the beginning of all of this.

Some ridiculous high number of years ago when the Romans still walked the Earth, my lineage was formed.

How?

A Welsh prince, a traveller, musician and nomad had his best friend exiled due to his supernatural gifts. Instead of leaving his best friend out in the world alone, he joined him and they travelled Albion together.

His name was Uther Pendragon and his friend was Merlin Ambrosius.

They travelled, north, south, east and west.

Clashing with Celts and Romans, they got into all sorts of mischief.

And Uther met and fell in love with a Viking shieldmaiden princess in Caledonia called Lagertha. Uther was smitten by her and his distraction led Merlin to find a young, injured black dragon in the woodlands.

Merlin grew attached to the creature and took him in, naming him Kilgharrah Merlin trained the dragon, and Uther was fascinated at their connection.

Dragons were well-known throughout Albion but not many people interacted with them.

They were wild creatures that could be dangerous but also could be generous. They lived their lives and humans lived theirs.

Merlin training and developing a close bond with Kilgharrah was the first time this had happened.

As Uther courted Lagertha, Merlin was not interested in girls, until Freya Caradoc came into his life.

A childhood friend of Lagertha, Merlin was just as smitten by her as she was of him.

Their relationship blossomed, Freya learning and training Kilgharrah with him but their relationship was a secret.

Uther or Lagertha could never know – handmaidens could never marry and the last thing Merlin wanted was to have Freya removed from her job.

Until Uther received word from his father – he was now the heir.

His brother had died in a Roman raid and Uther had to return home to take his place as the Crown Prince – and Merlin could return too.
