The next day we all meet at the table to discuss where we're at now. Olivia informed us last night that the Bakers sent their son to Ecuador, "Ecuador, huh? That's a smart move. I just read their extradition treaty, and Swiss cheese has less holes." Sonny puts his feet down and lowers the iPad onto the table.
"And Barba said we have to have Graham dead to rights on the statutory charge before we even try extradition." Olivia elaborates further, "he also said he has no interest in compelling an amnio or a blood test."
"Translation: Even Barba knows it's political suicide for a D.A." Sonny stands up and walks to stand behind me.
Fin says, "we just wait six months until the baby's born and prove it then."
"Wait, we're gonna stay on this for six months? Lane won't testify, and the family sent the doer to Ecuador." Mike argues that idea.
Olivia calms the room down, "guys, I don't want to hear this, all right? This is not about adolescent curiosity. He is a predator, right? If he did it once, he's gonna do it again."
"And he could have done it before." Amanda speaks up, opening her laptop, "Okay, I've been binge watching the show."
"Desk duty." Her and I say together, watching things here and there when there's down time and everyone is out on cases.
"And anyway, they cover almost every moment of each pregnancy, from the first trimester all the way into labor, except for when Pam is pregnant with Tate." She explains.
"Which one is Tate?" Finn asks.
"He's the two-year-old. The youngest." Sonny points to the young boys photo on our board.
"And every kid is spaced out two years apart or more, but Tate was born only 11 months after his older brother Pier." Amanda explains.
Mike offers up, "they could be Irish twins."
"Maybe." She holds up a finger, "but Pam announced four previous pregnancies by the third month, right? With Tate she waits until she's seven months in. And this, look..." she types something in the laptop then turns the screen to us all, "this was posted to their website just a few weeks before that announcement."
"That far along, and she looks like that? Rollins, when you were seven months you were like"
"Carisi" Fin says, telling him to be cautious
At the exact same time I utter out, "babe" with warning eyes.
"Hold on." Mike finally catches on, "Graham got one of his other sisters pregnant."
"Which one?" We all look at the board with the Baker clan on it.
"My guess is Summer. Three years ago she's 12, he's 14, and in the season finale, Pam and Summer go to Michigan to visit a sick aunt. I mean, they're only in, like, one scene, and that's via facetime." Amanda tells us all her theory.
"Okay, we still have the same issues. Graham is in Ecuador, and the family won't help." Mike states again out dilemma.
I speak up and say, "except for one thing. We don't need an amnio to get Tate's DNA or Graham's."
Mike goes at that though with, "again, the family won't cooperate. We're going around in circles."
"Okay, Dodds. You made your point." Olivia stops him from talking any further.
Sonny then comments, "you know what, cooperation isn't an issue here. Remember when the kids were here and I had to play Uncle Sonny?" He waits for one person to nod then goes on, "well, Tate got cold, so I gave him my jacket. He drooled all over it."
"You didn't take it to the dry cleaner?" Olivia asks.
I bow my head to stifle my laughter, knowing what his response is going to sound like. "No, I only wore it twice."
I shake my head and share a glance with Finn and give him a shrug, "okay. So we got Tate's DNA. We still need Graham's."
"What about Graham's father? Frank?" I ask.
Amanda says, "he's in the ROTC. We can get it."
Olivia states, looking directly at Mike as she says this, "if this was, indeed, incest, then Frank is the grandfather on both sides. Let's get to it." She dismisses us all.
It takes a two days but when the results come in Olivia sends Sonny and Amanda to get them directly. We all wait for confirmation on what we already know so we can take further action on Graham. Olivia's phone rings but it's not the answer we are expecting. Sonny had to take Amanda to the hospital as she was having unexplained pain. We all sit quietly at the precinct, wondering where to go from here and waiting on word on our friend. Finally, Olivia comes out of her office and on her cell. I listen as she says, "okay, Carisi. Yeah, thanks. But stay up there, okay?"
"How's Rollins?" Finn asks.
"She's okay. The baby's okay. But they want to keep her there for observation." She tells us.
"So where are we?" I ask everyone.
"Well, it turns out Graham isn't Tate's father. No Baker DNA on the paternal side." Olivia explains again where we stand most up to date.
Mike questions out loud, "so why'd they send him to Ecuador?"
"He may not be the father of Summer's baby, but we can't rule him out on Lane." I say back to him.
"Okay, so we're thinking there are two separate predators in her circle?" He follows up.
Olivia comments, "look , it's a pretty closed community. I mean, you've got the family, you've got the crew, you've got..."
Fin adds on, "you've got that pastor."
"Damn it. Pastor Eldon. He was on that east Harlem mission trip in July with Lane, right?" Mike asks Finn.
Fin jumps to action, opening the laptop, "I think so."
"Is there any chance we could put him with Summer three years ago?" Mike asks.
"Let me check." Fin tells us to hold on.
"What are thinking" I ask Mike to elaborate.
He explains, "remember I told you about Crown Heights? One of the cases involved three pregnant girls in the same synagogue. Well, now, we always thought it was the rabbi, but we couldn't make the case. No one was willing to say a bad word about him."
Olivia agrees, "well, no one in this family's gonna say a bad word about that pastor."
"Whoa." Fin hollers out, "I got something on their blog." We gather around to look at the photo, "Pastor Eldon and Summer, 2012. Christmas giving out gifts. At the east Harlem mission."
"He gets them away from home. That's his MO." I say to everyone.
"I'll call Barba." Olivia says already pulling out her phone and heading to her office. Barba gets us a warrent quickly and Sonny and Fin head to get the Pastors DNA.
The next day, Olivia, Sonny and myself head down to the Lab room to get the results first hand, "how's detective Rollins doing?" The technician asks.
Olivia tells her, "she's home, but they want to keep her on bed rest for now, and we are racing against the clock." Olivia is clearly distressed waiting for the results.
"It's a computer program. I can't make it go any faster." She returns as we all stare at the screen.
"Whatever you can do." Sonny says calmly.
A few things ping and beep, "okay, we got it." My eyes widen looking at the results and waiting for her to tell us more. "We're looking at a paternal match."
"You sure?" Olivia asks one more time for confirmation.
"I would testify, yes." She assures.
Olivia takes out her phone to make the call to Dodd's and Fin.
