Fly spray, insecticedes, aeroguard, etc, do not work in summer. There's simply not enough to kill all of them.
Kill one, fifty take their place. Spray it on yourself to get them to bugger off, then they land on you and have a friggen party.
Your best bet is an Akubra with corks, or even Aussier, just bloody deal. You'll get used to them. Eventually.
Just in time for winter to hit and they all fucking hibernate. Typical.
