You can however, drive up to Broken Hill for a burger for lunch and be back in time for tea. It's still a 5 and a 1/2 hr drive each way, but, hey. Each to his own.
One of my friends actually did that years ago. We live in the north suburbs of Adelaide, and his parents decided to just "Go for a drive". They ended up in Broken Hill, went to Hungry Jacks, turned around, and came back home.
