Chapter Eight ~ Charity Event (1/4)

"Y/N stop!"

Y/N flinched, Miles hardly ever raised his voice so it was totally unexpected.

"What?" She questions, toes digging into the soft carpet, knees moving up and down as the nervous energy hit her again. he wasn't entirely sure what was making her feel so on edge....

Who was she kidding, of course she knew.

It had something to do with Kim Taehyung and his date for the evening.

"I'm trying to do your makeup but you're making it incredibly difficult as you keep bouncing around, what's wrong with you?"

Miles sighs, his hand gently squeezing her leg to stop her from moving around so much.

"I'm sorry, I'm fine." She lies but hopes it sounds convincing enough to him, she wasn't in the mood for talking about it.

"Y/N, you've been my best friend for years. I know you, I know when you're lying to me."

She rolls her eyes, there would be no escaping this conversation.

"I don't know, something weird is happening between Taehyung and I."

Miles doesn't respond for a moment.

"What do you mean weird?"

"I don't know, it's just that...." She takes a deep breath, trying to gather her thoughts.

"I couldn't stand him at first, thought he was arrogant and rude but then we became friends. I guess sometimes opposites do attract when it comes to friendship but then when he told me he was taking Sasha as his date to the charity event, I don't know why but I felt jealous."

Miles chuckles, she wasn't sure why he found this information so amusing.

"Why does that strike you as amusing?" She questions him.

"It's obvious you like him Y/N, I see the way you act around him."

She furrows her brow.

"I've never cared for relationships before, I just don't see the point in me having one. I'm fine with my life the way it is, I don't know why I got jealous."

"Y/N why don't you see the point in having a relationship? You deserve to be happy, it would be good for you to have someone."

She shakes her head.

"There's no point, I'm not exactly easy to live with. I don't want to hold anyone back because of my impairment, I'm better off alone."

Miles scoffs, she knows he hates it when she puts herself down.

"Y/N cut the bullshit, there's plenty of people in situations like your own and they manage to keep perfectly loving and stable relationships. I just think you're scared to give yourself to someone, isn't it time you took the risk?"

She thinks about this for a moment before disregarding it.

"I don't even know what my feelings for Taehyung are, he's my
friend yes and maybe for a moment I allowed myself to be jealous but we've only known each other for six months and anyway.....he doesn't like me."

"Y/N how do you know? Have you asked him? Is it so hard to believe someone like Taehyung could like you?"

She nods, it was impossible for someone like Taehyung to like her.

"Taehyung is totally out of my league, I also know his reputation with women. I don't want to be just another name on his endless list of conquests, that's not the type of woman I am."

Miles' fingers gently grip her chin, tilting it up so he can apply her eyeliner.

"I can understand your reluctance Y/N, don't be so stubborn though. It's entirely possible for someone like Taehyung to change, to want something more serious and meaningful."

"I know, I didn't say he was a bad guy. I just.....don't think he even likes me so what's the point."

"Y/N! You really need to stop worrying so much, stop second guessing and doubting yourself. I don't think you understand just how beautiful you are, inside and out."

She smiles, of course he would say that. He's her best friend and totally biased

"How cute, you're getting all soft on me."

"Aish, hush. I'm almost done with your makeup by the way, have you decided what dress you're wearing?"

She shakes her head.

"No, I was just going to let you pick."

"I'm thinking something elegant yet sexy, we need to show this Sasha her competition."

She laughs, shaking her head.

"I'm definitely not her competition, if Taehyung asked her out she must be beautiful."

"Y/N....stop doubting yourself. I need you to be confident tonight, show Taehyung just how lucky he is to have you in his life."

"What's going on? What are we showing Taehyung?" Y/N rolls her eyes as Cyrus enters the bedroom, Miles knowing was bad enough but if Cyrus knows he would make it his mission to get her and Taehyung together.

"Our Y/N has her first crush."

"Yah! I don't like him that much!" She hits Miles' knee which was resting against her own and he chuckles.

"Y/N! Really? That's so adorable!" Cyrus gushes, she can imagine he's smirking right now.

"It's not a big deal, you two don't need to meddle! I don't even know what I feel or want at this point, just forget you ever heard this."

There was silence, she just knows right now the two of them were silently communicating and grinning like idiots.

"Yah! I'm blind but can feel you guys smiling at me like I'm some lovestruck teenager, stop it."

They both laugh.

"Y/N we want you to be happy, you deserve someone to look after you." Cyrus says as he moves closer, the mattress beside her dipping as he sits down.

"Cy Bear is right, we don't want you alone anymore Y/N. I'm only going to be here a month, once me and Cy move into our new place I won't be around as much especially since our place is quite a distance from here."

She furrows her brow, flinching a little when Cyrus takes her hand in his own.

"Just think about it, would it really be so bad to find yourself someone?" Cy questioned, his thumb caressing her palm.

"I don't need anyone, I'm perfectly fine by myself. I don't want to talk about this anymore so just pick my dress for me please, we don't want to be late."

They both sigh.

What's wrong with living alone? She didn't need anyone, she was fine alone.

Right?
