{Jugheads POV}

She'd have to find out eventually. I just wished it was on my terms.

Since I was 9 years old, my dad was the Southside Serpent King. The leader. Once mom and Jellybean moved away, he became known as the Serpent King. I looked up to him. He was my hero. When I became a Serpent, he was so proud.

Now that he's in jail for the next 20 years, the Serpents needed a leader. By the time he gets out he'll be too damn old. So who do they chose to take over for the infamous FP Jones? His son. Me.

I'm proud. They're my family, and I would die for them.

"What did Pop mean by you being a leader?" She asked. It shouldn't matter to me, what she thinks. Whether she agrees with it or not.

Why does it matter to me so god damn much!?

Just as I opened my mouth to speak, I was interrupted by a girl.

"Betty?" The girl says. She's short, raven hair, clean bushy eyebrows. She's wearing a designer dress, heels and a cape. Standing next to her is cherry top. Betty turns quickly, her eyes meeting the raven haired girls.

"Veronica?" Betty replies. Her hand slips away from mine as she stands to her feet, bringing Veronica in for a hug. "I though you weren't supposed to be here for a few more days!"

   "Surprise!"

"Well, sit you guys!" Betty offers. Though I'd rather them not, I say nothing as Betty slides in next to me and the other across from us. "This is my friend Jughead, Jug, this is Archie and Veronica" Betty introduces. I force a smile.

"Nice to meet you Jughead" Veronica smiles. Archie, however, only nods and smirks. My eyes linger with his, rage filling me. Where does cherry top get the right to treat me like shit? As I'm about to say something, my hand is filled with that of a smaller one.

Looking down my fingers are laced with Betty's petite ones. Without looking at me she gives me a reassuring squeeze.

   How did she know?

"How was fashion week, V?" Betty asks.

"It was amazing!! They had all these amazing clothes and...." her voice trails away in my ears. Sitting here, I look at them. Northsiders. Archie, obviously a jock. Veronica, practically a princess but, then there's Betty. While you can tell she's a Northsider, you can also tell she's different.

For one, she's a mechanic. I'm not trying to be sexist! It's very rare, especially in Riverdale, to see a woman mechanic. Even on the south side all the mechanics are men. She also knows how to handle herself. The way she reacted to the kid earlier proved that. She's different.

Did I choose the wrong target?

"What are your guys' plans for the night?" Betty asks the two, her eyebrows bouncing up and down. Veronica laughs as Archie wraps his arm around her.

"Oh you know, stuff" Archie insinuates.

"What about you guys?" Veronica asks us.

"Well, I think Jug has plans so I'm probably going to head home." Betty shrugs.

"Actually, I was going to see if you wanted to come with me? You know Joaquin so, it should be fun" I smile. Their eyes are on us and Betty looks at me.

"Sure! Whatever it is, I'm sure it'll be fun!" She smiles, squeezing my hand once more. I smile back, returning the gesture.

"Hey Betty, could I talk to you alone for a second?" Cherry top asks. My eyes snap to him, he seems unsure, scared. He avoids my gaze as Betty and him head to the other side of Pops, leaving me and Veronica alone.

"So, Jughead, how old are you?" She asks. So far, she seems nice. Nicer than you'd expect from someone who looks like her.

   "I'm 22" I say.

"How long have you and Betty known each other? Usually she would've told me if she found a new friend"

"Only a few days, she worked on my bike and it's gone on from there." I say. She nods her head smiling. "What?"

"I'm not meaning to pry, I'm just looking out for my girl. She's had a rough go of it, and I just want to make sure she's treated right" she says. A twinge of heat runs through my veins at her words. "She's an amazing girl Jughead, and she deserves the world"

   "Duly noted" I smiled.

"If you hurt her, you'll have me to deal with" she whispers as Archie and Betty return. As they sit down, I can tell things are uneasy. His glances at me tell me that he doesn't trust me.

Looks like cherry top and I are gonna have problems.

"Well, we're gonna go. Betty, you text me later and we'll go shopping tomorrow okay?" Veronica says. Betty nods with a smile before they turn and walk out the door.

"You okay?" I ask, placing my hand on her shoulder.

"Actually, I'm great Jug" she smiles. The way she calls me Jug, causes that same turn in my stomach. "Are we ready?"

Without a word, I nod. And we're off to my home away from home.

   The Whyte Wyrm.
