Chapter Fourty Four

{Jugheads POV}

   The love of my life is pregnant with our baby, we're engaged, could anything go wrong!?

   As I stand here, surrounded by the people whom I call family, I can't help but smile. As I'm watching Betty talk with Joaquin, smiling from ear to ear, I can't help but feel at peace. After everything that has happened, we're alive. And we're beginning our lives together.

   "Jughead..... can I talk to you.. please?" A familiar voice said to my side. I turned to be faced with my mothers face. I expected to be instantly raged, but I wasn't. With a heavy sigh, I nodded and followed her out the door onto the small porch of my father trailer. As we stood there, silent for what felt like ages, I started thinking. Would I want this for my child? Heaven forbid Betty and I weren't to last, would I want our child hating her mother? "C-congratulations Jughead... o-on the baby and your engagement..." she stuttered. As I looked at her, tears filling her eyes, I knew what I wanted. Without a second thought, I wrapped my arms around her shoulders and pulled her into a hug. She was tense at first, not knowing what to do, but quickly she wrapped her arms around my waist and squeezed as hard as she could. She was shaking, crying in my shoulder as we just stood there hugging. I knew she needed this hug, what I didn't know was how much I needed it.

   "I think it's time we forgive and forget..." I stated as we broke apart. She was smiling as tears ran down her cheeks.

   "I'm so sorry..... for everything.... I never should have left you here... I never should have left you" she cried. "Look at you... all grown up! About to have a baby and be married" she cried. As I was about to speak, the door opened and Betty walked out. She was in a pair of black leggings and a baggy, off the shoulder grey t-shirt. Her blonde hair was in a bun.

   "Everything alright, out here?" She asked with a smile on her face. My smiled widened.

   "Everything's perfect" I smiled before placing a kiss on Betty's forehead. Weirdly enough, as if on cue, a familiar face cleared her throat below us. We turned to see none other than Alice Cooper.

"Mom?" Betty asked astonished. "What are you doing here?"

"Well I heard through the grape vine that you were engaged.... I just wanted to give you my congratulations in person..." she trailed off. She held a small gift box in her hands as she stood awkwardly at the bottom of the steps. "Polly said congratulations too... she asked me to let you know that she'll be visiting here soon..." I could feel Betty tense up beside me, I could almost hear her heart beat. As I watched her and her mother stare at one another, I knew Betty missed her mother.

"Juliet..... forgive and forget..." I stated. As her eyes connected with mine, I could see the worry lift away from her. She smiled slightly before making her way down the steps and pulling her mother in for a hug. As I stood there and watched the embrace with a smile, I was happy.

Soon we all made our way back inside, joining the rest of our family. Everyone was smiling and happy, chatting without a care in the world. I watched as Betty and Jellybean talked about possible baby names, Veronica and Cheryl cutting in. I watched as my mother and Betty's mother got to know one another with smiles as they gushed about their children. I watched as everyone was happy.

   Toni and Cheryl seemed more loving than they have been in so long. Veronica and Sweetpea were doing better than ever, more in love than ever.

   Everyone was happy.

   Completely happy.

   That is until......

   ~ knock, knock, knock ~

   "Who the hell else isn't already here!?" Fangs exclaimed with joking annoyance. As I made my way to the door, placed my hand on the knob and opened it, my heart stopped. The room fell silent as everyone's eyes landed on our recent, unexpected guest.

   Archie Andrews.
