The fallen had created twelve male and twelve female foetuses. Each male would have a female to wed. Now there was a problem, Kendra's chosen, Melcho, was dead. It was not so much a problem while he was young but as he attained manhood then his natural urges would drive him to mate. This could cause conflict among the others so a contingency would have to be provided for.
"We shall grab a wife for him off the earth," said his mother, "I do not want him marrying one of the mothers here when he is of age."
"We cannot kidnap a woman from the earth to be his wife. She would need to understand where she is going and what consequences it would have on her life." Looking down at her he finished with, "But we shall worry about this when the time comes."
For a time Kendra consoled himself with the other friends he had and kept well clear of the caverns, but still he yearned for adventure and took delight in the books his father brought him. Many a time would he be found at the Arc reading and looking towards the shimmering globe of the earth through the membrane.
